Yocan Dive Review – Dive right in!
Weve checked out a few older offerings in the ever growing list of Yocan vaporizers before like the Yocan Evolve Plus or the Yocan Flick, though we werent particularly amazed. Being an electronic nectar collector, it deviates from traditional wax pen vaporizers and changes up the whole experience. With an MSRP of $59USD at the time of this review, it seems like a tempting piece and one of the cheapest electronic nectar collectors around. Check out what we have to say about the Yocan Dive here!
If this is your first wax concentrates vaporizer, please do head on over to our Wax Pen Buyers Guide for some useful tips and tricks to help you get started!
Yocan Dive Review
How it Works
The Yocan Dive Nectar Collector is pretty simple to use, even if youve never used or seen a nectar collector before. 5 quick consecutive clicks will turn the unit on while triple-clicking the same button will cycle through the heat settings.
After a brief heat-up time, just touch the heated end to your concentrated material and inhale it! Its important to be careful of the hot end of the device, as it will definitely burn you!
Temperature Flexibility
Unlike the single temperature setting on the Yocan Magneto, there are 3 different heating profiles offered by the Dive, each, of course, changing up the experience a bit. We arent given any specific information as to which these settings are, however.
Unfortunately, you dont have the ability to adjust the temperature to a specific setting either, unlike the Linx Blaze Wax Pen with its 4 temperature settings, making it hard to find the sweet spot for your different materials.
Vapor Quality
On low, the flavor is nice and the vapor is very soft on the lungs, though vapor production isnt too much. In medium and high settings, vapor production increases dramatically, with the flavor dropping off with the hotter it gets. If you are looking for something with much more versatility, you could also have a look at the Source Orb 4 Signature.
The advantage that nectar collectors have with the longer air path is quite clear with the Yocan Dive, as the vapor has a chance to cool down significantly before reaching your lungs.
Overall, the Yocan Dive Nectar Collector has solid vapor quality; however, without the ability to finely tune your temperature settings, I wouldnt use any of my top shelves concentrates on it.
Manufacturing Quality
Its no secret that Yocan has its units produced in China however, the quality is a notch above typical Chinese products. Its not bad by any means, however, you can tell its built on a budget of course, it is a budget vaporizer after all. Since we are talking about budgets, Utillian 2 Wax Pen should be a great fit to your liking while still boasting a superior production quality.
The Yocan Drive Nectar Collector feels sturdy and reliable, however, which is what arguably matters most. Included in the box is a pretty barebones setup, only giving you the unit itself, two replacement coils, a Micro USB charger, and a user manual.
Battery Life
At 650mAh, youll get plenty of hits and sessions off before needing to top up again. Youll easily be able to go for a few days of frequent use or even weeks of very casual use without needing to plug it in.
Unfortunately, the battery is not user-replaceable unlike the Focus V Tourist with its removable battery, so that means when it does reach the end of its natural life cycle, youll be left with a costly paperweight.
Portability
Due to its compact size, itll store away in any pocket or bag comfortably. Its a touch chunkier than your average pen vaporizer, however, I found it doesnt really affect portability much unless you have very small pockets. If you are looking for something that comes with its own carrying case, do check out the Puffco Peak.
Ease of Use
After a few sessions, youll have practically mastered the draw technique and such, and showing a beginner how to use it only requires a little bit of instruction. The Yocan Dive was designed as a product for beginners and novice users, and it fills that role well. We would also like you to check out the Linx Hypnos Zero where you’ll find great taste from each draw.
Cleaning it is also quite simple, and a little bit of isopropyl alcohol will make quick work of any build-up and residue in the vapor path and mouthpiece.
Discreetness
Since its not like a traditional wax vaporizer, its a bit clunky to use in public and will gather a little bit of attention. When not in use, most people will dismiss it as a simple e-juice vaporizer, however, itll generate a few looks and stares when youre sipping from a small container with essentially a large electric straw in public. The Linx Ember with it’s sleeker, slimmer body could be a great choice for you if you’re looking for something with great battery life and stainless steel body that can add to a lot of discreteness.
Overall Experience
For the price, the Yocan Dive really does a decent job. The vapor is flavorful, smooth, and you can get some big hits from it (but it can be harsh). Its an inexpensive unit and designed for beginners.
If youre looking for something a bit more convenient with solid vapor quality but easier on-the-go use, check out the Linx Hypnos Zero instead! For an attachment for your existing box mod, check out the highly loved Saionara Atomizer!
