Vype ePen 3 Review – Is there any hype for Vype?
Review: Vype ePen 3
Manufacturing Quality
First things first, the Vype ePen 3 feels a bit bulky when compared to most other pod vapes on the market and it doesn’t feel the greatest in the hand. It’s all plastic construction has a cheap overall feeling to it.
Aesthetics are where things get a bit more complicated. Placing the Vype ePen 3 and the Bo One side by side and its clear as day that the Bo One is definitely the smaller among the two devices. The size and shape of the Vype ePen 3 remind us of those remote controls that most high-end smart TV’s use.
The mouthpiece, keeping in line with the rest of the device is also wider than the mouthpiece on your average vape pen. It honestly feels like you are shoving a finger into your mouth which is a bit unsettling.
The Delrin material used to construct the mouthpiece is much appreciated as well as it’s highly effective at keeping most of the high temperatures inside the device from reaching your lips. If you are looking for a 510-thread battery for oil cartridges we suggest checking out the Tronian Nutron.
Flavor Quality
Out of the box, the Vype ePen 3 comes with the 2 pre-filled pods. Due to the closed-off design of the pod’s anyone who buys a Vype ePen 3 should know beforehand that you won’t be able to use your own e-liquid with this device, nor will you be able to refill the pods at all which are meant to be discarded after fully depleted, just like the Bo One.
With that said, Vype does offer a smattering of flavor options to choose from, 7 to be exact. Each starter kit automatically contains a Blended Tobacco and Crisp Mint pod which in all honesty don’t taste all that great.
When it comes to flavor quality, we can’t exactly say that the Vype ePen 3 blew us away. What we can say however is that flavor production feels roughly the same as the all-popular Juul. If youve been using big box mods with 510 carts it may be time to look for something smaller, most vapers tend to start with PCKT One Plus for their oil because it’s much more compact than a mod.
Power Flexibility
You won’t be getting any fancy features or vaping modes with the Vype ePen 3. Built for simplicity and ease of use, there’s a distinct lack of buttons or any configurable options to be found on the device.
Variable wattage and temperature control are obviously out of the window as far as the Vype ePen 3 is concerned.
Ease of Use
The Vypie is a fairly standard set up and operation is plug and play. Charge up the device with the included micro USB charging cable, plug in a pod which should clip neatly and tightly in place then you’re good to go. 3 clicks on the firing button turns on the device with an LED power indicator to help you keep track of the device’s status.
Hold the firing button down and inhale and when done, click the firing button 3 times to turn the device off. To be honest, having a fire button on a pod-based vape feels a bit archaic and something that other units like the Bo One do better with their auto-draw.
Portability
With the dimensions of the Vype ePen 3 measuring out to 123mm * 18mm * 27mm, it’s quite larger than your average pod-style device. It does make up for this however with a significantly extended battery life rated at 650mAh, more than triple the battery life of the Juul.
Each of the pods also contains 2ml of e-liquid before needing to be replaced which makes for minimal downtime between not just recharging cycles, but pod replacements as well.
Overall Experience
In all honesty, there is a reason you see these units in gas stations and not vape boutiques and that’s because the Vype is nothing special and there are plenty of other units out there that do the job better. The Vype is simple big tobacco’s attempt to jump on the fast moving train of the vaping industry and it shows with the clunkiness of this device.
