XVAPE Muse Wax Pen Review – Knights of Waxdonia

Updated: October 6, 2023

Today we’ll be reviewing the XVAPE Muse, a concentrate vaporizer that brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “wax pen.” As hard as it may be to believe, the Muse is both a vaporizer and a pen! I’m not kidding around, you can actually write with this thing. XVAPE put some type of inkless writing tip on the end that makes this possible. As cool as that may be, the more important question is how well does this thing work as a vaporizer. Let’s find out… Also if this is your first vaporizer be sure to check out our Wax Pen Buyers Guide for helpful tips.

XVape Muse Atomizer

How it Works

Take one look at the Muse and it’s obvious that the goal was to make this look as much like a pen as possible. The bottom comes to a point, and like I mentioned in the intro, the tip can actually write. I’ll be honest, I don’t know how it works. There isn’t any ink, so I guess it’s like graphite. I’m not a pen reviewer though, so let’s move on…

The top of the pen, which is complete with the metal clip thing that you can use to attach a pen to a pocket, slides right off to reveal the glass mouthpiece. The mouthpiece also slides off the top to give you access to the atomizer. You get two atomizers in the box, one with dual quartz rods with titanium coils and one that is a ceramic donut. These 2 atomizer designs are pretty standard now and are pretty similar to what you find on the Kandypens Gravity.

XVape Muse Charging Port

There is just one button on the entire device. It allows you to turn the unit on and off, plus it also has three different temperature levels that you can choose between. Once you have everything setup, you simply press the button and take a draw.

Temperature Flexibility

There are three temperature settings, ranging between 300C and 700C. I can’t say for sure, but I highly doubt that the device actually heats directly to these temperatures and stops. I’d view them more as approximate temperatures.

Just so you know, the highest level is extremely hot and much more than you need. The lowest level is plenty to get big clouds while preserving the flavor. Users, however, that want complete control over their usually tend to prefer devices like the Focus V Tourist that offers precise temperature control.

Vapor Quality

The vapor quality is good, but you have to be careful to use the right settings. While this is capable of delivering smooth, big hits that are full of flavor like the Utillian 5 (V3), it’s also more than capable of delivering harsh hits that will destroy your lungs and cause a fit of coughing. I prefer it at the lowest setting with the ceramic donut.

The flavor is great with that combo. If you are looking for bigger clouds and harder hitting draws, go with the dual quartz rod atomizer on the medium setting. Again, I recommend avoiding the highest temperature.

Manufacturing Quality

This is a well built vaporizer, and you’ve got to love the design. The exterior is all metal, and the atomizers appear to be both well made. The magnetic connections make it very easy to use, and the fact that they made it a functioning pen is also a nice touch.

If I could change one thing, it would definitely be the temperature control and levels. There’s no need to heat as high as this does, vapor quality suffers and it also drains the battery faster.

If you’ve read this far and you are thinking this may be a good pen for you, there is one catch that we want to bring up, it retails for 169.99, easily making it one of the most expensive wax pens available, in fact, it is more expensive than the top end Kandypens Elite.

So with that in mind does this pen perform well enough to justify the price? Personally I do not think so, especially from a relatively unknown company like XVape. They certainly aren’t household names in the wax community like Kandypens or SOURCEVapes, so to demand such a cost makes us raise an eyebrow.

Battery Life

The battery is rated at 750mAh, which is actually a little bigger than what you normally find in a pen vape like the Linx Hypnos Zero that comes 650 mAh. The performance will highly depend on what temperature setting you choose.

If you choose the lowest one, you’ll get a lot more life than with the highest. Either way, this should easily last you through a full day of vaping.

Portability

The portability of the Muse is excellent. This is true of pretty much every pen vape ever made though. The only things that can hurt a pen vape when it comes to portability are being cheaply made like the Yocan Evolve Plus or having a weak battery.

This is durable and it has a good battery life. It’s very convenient for carrying around and enjoying on the go.

Ease of Use

The Muse is very easy to use. Like I mentioned in the How It Works section, there is just one button that controls everything on this. The connections being magnetic like the Utillian 2 Wax Pen has are also nice in this regard. There is one other thing worth mentioning, and that’s the charging cable.

This may seem too minor to be worth mentioning, but I really like that XVAPE included a retractable cord with the Muse. This keeps the cord neat and easy to grab and use. You’ll never have to deal with a tangled cord or having to wrap it up.

Discreetness

Can you get any more discreet than a wax pen that’s actually a pen? I’m not sure that you can. If someone were to ask what you were doing, you can simply show them that what you are “chewing” on is a pen and proof it with writing.

That’s all on top of the fact that it is already small and easy to conceal just like the Linx Blaze but with additional camouflage. This is a great option if you’re trying to enjoy concentrates in public.

Overall Experience

I was tempted to write the XVAPE Muse off as a novelty item before trying it, but that’s definitely not the case.

This is a legitimate wax pen that performs decently well. The vapor is enjoyable if you use the right settings. The fact that it is also a pen is just a great bonus. Obviously this isn’t something that you’ll want to be writing with on a daily basis, but it’s great for taking a quick note inspired during a session with it. It’s also an awesome bonus for discretion.

However, there seems to be a large cost associated with this type of discreetness and demanding a top-tier price for an otherwise average wax pen just does not make much sense.

If you are going to spend that amount of money on a wax pen you would be better served by either the Kandypens Gravity, which is $30 cheaper or the Kandypens Elite which is $10 cheaper. Both give you the same style of atomizers you get with the Muse and the temperatures are much better calibrated. You would also be getting a wax pen from one of the top names in the business.

Alternatively, if you dont mind forgoing the sleek looks of a wax pen but want to experience the novelty and smooth hits that a water bubbler offers, the XMAX Qomo is definitely worth checking out.

And if you really are not looking to drop a whole lot of money, but want to enjoy the convenience of a wax pen you may be better off going with something that offers more flavorful vapor like the Linx Ember.
