Vapium Hyer Big-E Rig Review – It Charges Your Phone?

Updated: October 6, 2023

The Vapium Hyer Big-E Rig is the newest offering from Vapium, and understandably looks like some strange UFO contraption. We’ve already reviewed some of Vapiums products like the Summit and Summit Plus, which are geared towards the outdoorsy connoisseur. At a hefty price tag, is the Vapium Hyer a top of the line performer, or is it over-shadowed by other high-end units?

If this is your first concentrates vaporizer, make sure to check out the handy Wax Pen Buyers Guide for an effective rundown on how they work!

Review: Vapium Hyer Big-E Rig

How it Works

The Vapium Hyer is a bit of a convoluted unit with multiple steps. There’s an adjustable base to hold the water piece of your choosing, movable e-nail/heater element, a couple of USB ports and generally strange design that leaves even experienced users more than confused.

Although it looks rather difficult to operate, the steps are pretty simple. Start by fastening the water piece of choice, plug in the e-nail element to the body, put the heating element over the downstem of the water piece, and set your temperature. Within one to two minutes, it should be ready to hit!

Temperature Flexibility

There is an adjustable temperature which adjusts via two buttons and reaches a temperature of up to 750°F/398°C. There is a display on the unit which displays your current temperature.

The unit, however, does go higher when in cleaning mode. Yeah, there’s a heat setting for cleaning it, leaving the maintenance to be quite painless!

Once a session is underway, the temperature will stabilize exactly where you put it allowing for longer sessions, great for groups! With all of that being said, a quicker heat-up time that some units like the Puffco Peak boast would’ve been nice to see.

Vapor Quality

The vapor quality is nothing short of fantastic, and for the price, it had better be! With the temperature dial, you can effectively tune your temperature to best match which concentrates you’re using and hits are very nice and consistent.

The heating element is composed of ceramic as the heater and quartz as the dish.

Of course, results vary depending on the temperature and glass piece used, and with the proper settings, this device hits like a truck.

The quartz glass cleans up extremely well and provides for rich, flavorful and un-adulterated hits every single time. I couldn’t possibly think of a way to improve vapor quality in fact. Users that desire higher vapor quality on the go usually tend to prefer units like the Utillian 5 (V3).

Manufacturing Quality

Manufacturing quality is nice, not as good as a device like the Utillian 8 but good enough to provide great vapor. The base will even turn off when tipped since there are sensors to detect if the base has been tipped over. There are so many features it’s hard to list them all!

A USB-C charging port for the unit itself, a standard Micro-USB charging port to charge your phone, a built-in stash drawer, a slot to stow away a loading tool, and the aforementioned cleaning mode. Included as well are some very handy adapters such as:

  • 14mm female adapter
  • 14mm male adapter
  • 14 to 18mm female adapter

Seriously, a port to charge your phone and a sensor to detect if the unit has tipped over? That’s pretty next level if I do say so myself. You’ll certainly become a life-saver during the next session where someone’s phone is nearly flat and you have your e-rig that can charge it!

Battery Life

Battery life is also stellar! Unlike most of the wax pens such as the Linx Ares that have just one battery, included are 4 * 3300MaH 18650 batteries which give the unit a suggested total run time of around two hours, depending on temperatures of course.

Automatic shut-off, a power saving mode, USB-C charging and removable batteries are all so incredibly useful.

USB-C charging should be the norm for all new devices as it drastically shortens charging time!

When the batteries reach the end of their lifespan, you won’t be stuck with a three hundred dollar paperweight either as they’re all removable.

There are zero improvements I could see that could be made in terms of battery life – a very rare statement to make.

Ease of Use

While the Vapium Hyer certainly looks extra-dimensional, the operation of the unit is surprisingly simple like any other wax pens such as the Linx Blaze. After fastening the water piece, plugging in the e-nail and setting it onto the water pipe, all that’s left is turning the unit on and setting the temperature.

Sure, there are more steps than most rigs, however, it really only takes a few more seconds to get it set. Much easier and more consistent than using a blow torch, that’s for sure!

As for maintenance, the Vapium Hyer has a cleaning mode! The temperature goes even higher and will completely burn off whichever material was left on it.

It’d be recommended to also give it a quick wipe with either an isopropyl-soaked cotton swap or alcohol wipes like Grime Wipes.

Discreetness

I don’t think I really need to explain how the Vapium Hyer is the definition of conspicuous. While in use it’s glaringly obvious, and the lime green colored accents shout “hey, look over here!”

If you’re looking for an actual discreet wax pen, check out the Linx Hypnos Zero.

Overall Experience

If you want absolutely top notch wax sessions, will be out and about occasionally and perhaps the savior to a friend in need whose phone has died, the Vapium Hyer is absolutely the device for you – provided you’re willing to shell out for the price tag. Each hit is consistent, stellar quality, and the unit itself surprisingly easy to use!

For those wanting the absolute top of the line and uncontested quality hits, this is the epitome of that. Quite unlike any wax vaporizer on the market, it’s also quite a looker and will gather many questions during the next group session.

If I were to wish for any improvements I would want different heating element types (titanium, ceramic, quartz, etc), a shorter heat-up time and perhaps aluminum construction.

Innovation is always great to see as it pushes other companies to create products with more features! This device is certainly innovative and a step in the right direction for the future.

And if you are looking for a unit that can do both herbs and concentrates be sure to check out the Utillian 722.
