Vapium Summit Plus Review – Climbing Everest

Updated: October 6, 2023

The Vapium Summit Plus is an upgrade over the original Vapium Summit that was released back in 2015. The Summit Plus looks to improve over its predecessor by providing a better battery, a stronger chamber cap magnet, and a removable stir tool. Do these upgrades move the Vapium Summit Plus to the top of the mountain? Or will we find this vaporizer left behind and frozen in time? Read our review for the full scoop.

Review: Vapium Summit Plus

Vapium Summit Plus

How Vapium Summit Plus Works

How it Works

The Vapium Summit Plus is really straightforward, just press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to turn the unit on, the device will begin to heat up to the last set temperature.

To toggle between temperatures settings press the + or – arrow buttons. The 4 lights on the device indicate the current temperature level, each light has a solid and flashing mode to indicate 2 separate temperature settings, to make 8 total available temperatures.

To load the Vapium Summit Plus simply remove the magnetic chamber cap located at the bottom of the device to expose the heating chamber and fill it with your desired herbs. For best results, we recommend packing down your material prior to vaping and fill the chamber full. Snap the magnetic lid back into place and you are ready to vaporize.

Temperature Flexibility Of Vapium Summit Plus

Temperature Flexibility

As previously mentioned the Summit Plus features 8 pre-set temperatures as indicated by the LED’s on the device and can be toggled by pressing the + and – button on the unit. A solid light will indicate you are on the first heat setting for that particular level, while a blinking light will indicate you are on the second level. Temperatures range from 160C to 230C and increase in increments of 10 when the next heat setting is selected.

The Vapium Summit Plus also features a mobile app that will actually allow you to control the device down to the individual degree. We definitely like this added feature as it reminds us a lot of how one controls temperature on the Crafty+ or Pax 3

Vapor Quality Of Vapium Summit Plus

Vapor Quality

The vapor from the Vapium Summit Plus is pretty much on par with what we experienced with the original summit. It does a decent job at producing vapor but draws at higher temperatures tend to lead to warm and unpleasant vapor.

We also found the flavor of our herbs a bit muted on the Vapium Summit Plus, most likely due to the stainless steel heating chamber. We really hope in the future Vapium considers using a ceramic chamber for a full flavorful experience.

With the included app and precise temperature controls, users should have an easier time at refining the type of vapor they wish to achieve. But if you prefer to vape at higher temperatures this may not be the unit for you. We would also recommend you to check out the Arizer Solo 2  for its amazing vapor quality and flavor.

Manufacturing Quality Of Vapium Summit Plus

Manufacturing Quality

We were happy to see that Vapium has stepped up their manufacturing quality with their newest built. Addressing previous issues like the loose magnetic cap and sub-par battery life, which were the biggest downfalls of the original Summit.

The device is designed to be used in rugged conditions with an operating range of -18C to 80C. So if you live near the poles or equator you can rest easy that this device will work even in extreme conditions.

We were also pleased to see that they added a removable stirring tool, something that was sorely needed in the original Summit. The Summit’s chamber needs to be stirred about halfway through the session, so to have a tool included is a big boost to convenience and eliminates the need to find a stick to use as a stir tool while hiking on a trail. The Mighty Vaporizer with its robust design and haptic feedback, is another good option to consider if you prefer higher manufacturing quality.

The inclusion of the mobile app is also a nice touch and while our Bluetooth Debate survey found that most people do not use included vaporizer apps, the Summits app does a nice job at enhancing the already existing features of the device. We especially liked being able to set the unit to a custom temperature via the app.

Battery Life Of Vapium Summit Plus

Battery Life

To charge the Vapium Summit Plus, plug the included USB into the device and connect it to either a wall adapter or computer. The Vapium’s lights will give you a sense of the current charge level when plugged in and when all 4 lights are illuminated it means the device is full charged. The device will also show you the charge level when you first turn the device on through the same 4 LED’s. The charge level can also be checked by using the included app. You could check out the Zeus Arc GTS Hub with its 3500 MAH battery, especially if you plan for whole day usage.

The Summit Plus has been upgraded with a 3300mah battery to offer roughly 1.5 hours of vaping, which improved on the previous Summit which could only achieve around an hours’ worth of vaping.

Portability Of Vapium Summit Plus

Portability

The Vapium Summit Plus is a very portable unit and is roughly the same size as the Vapir Prima. It can easily be stored in a pocket or bag for easy transport. Vapium includes what they have coined as a “Dry Bag”, which will keep your vaporizer protected from the rain, snow and other various elements you may run into in the wild. If you are looking for good portability as well as being discreet, Davinci IQC would be a good option.

For extra additional portability we highly suggest picking up the Zeus Armor Hard Case. This unit fits perfectly and there is enough space for the accessories, charger, as well as a custom spot for the Zeus Bolt Grinder. The case is splash resistant, odor-resistant, and shock-resistant offering a wide range of protection for this vaporizer.

Ease Use Of Vapium Summit Plus

Ease of Use

The Vapium Summit is a pretty simple device to understand once you start to play around with it. There are only 3 buttons, the on/off button, and the temperature increase and decrease button. Most users should have no problem getting the unit working right out of the box.

Loading the device is fairly easy, especially with the magnetic cap, which allows you to effortlessly expose the heating chamber.

The Summit’s mobile app is a blessing and a curse when it comes to ease of use. If you are a tech-savvy person you should have no issues getting your Summit connected to your phone, but the technophobes may be a bit more wary of said technology. That being said the app is fairly intuitive and even the technical challenged should be able to handle it with some ease.

Cleaning is definitely the most difficult aspect of the Summit Plus, stainless steel heating chambers are notorious for staining and are extremely difficult to get back to looking brand new. The small vapor path will require the use of an alcohol-soaked pipe cleaner in order to keep it free from obstructions. Once again this unit reminds us of Pax 3 in this regard. If you’re interested in a one-button operation system, you could also have a look at the Utillian 722.

Overall Experience Of Vapium Summit Plus

Overall Experience

The Vapium Summit Plus is a worthy upgrade over the predecessor but still, falls short when it comes to vapor quality. So while the Summit offers users a rugged device capable of withstanding extreme temperatures, we wish a bit more engineering went into the actual heating chamber and vapor path to provide a better experience over the original Vapium rather than keeping with the status quo.

Unless you are an avid outdoorsman who likes to take his vaporizer to the harshest climates on the planet it is hard to recommend the Vapium Summit Plus over a unit like the Utillian 620, which puts precise temperature control in the user’s hands, has a much better battery life and better flavor via the ceramic chamber.

Warning: Not Compatible with ZEUS Iceborn
This vaporizer is not compatible with the ZEUS Iceborn, a revolutionary new vapor cooling system designed to produce cooler draws and bigger clouds when connected to your vaporizer. The ZEUS Iceborn adds an additional 2 points to the vapor quality score of compatible units, so we highly recommend considering a whip-compatible vaporizer to take advantage of this stellar ZEUS accessory item. All compatible vaporizers will have a compatibility notice.
