Lookah Dragon Egg Review: Unique Build That Actually Works?

The Lookah Dragon Egg is one of Lookah’s unique-shaped E Rigs. Due to its form factor and value, the Dragon Egg holds a unique spot in the Electric Dab Rigs Market. It’s easy to use, which makes it a prime pick for newcomers with an affordable price point.

Before we start, I want to let you know that this unit is not designed to produce the highest-quality vapor. Its purpose is more about convenience and cost-effectiveness, similar to the Utillian 8. However, Lookah products often catch people’s attention because of their affordable price and unique design. But how well does it actually perform? Let’s find out.

How it works

Before you use it for the first time, make sure the Dragon Egg is fully charged. This will help ensure you get the best performance from the get-go.

How to Use the Dragon Egg E-Rig:

• Step 1: Unscrew the chamber with the bubbler and fill it about one-third full with water. Once done, screw the chamber back on.
• Step 2: Open the flip cap that is held by a magnet. Place a small amount of wax in the center of the coil on the heating plate.
• Step 3: Quickly press the power button five times within two seconds to turn on the Dragon Egg. You will feel the device vibrate.
• Step 4: The device will start preheating, and the display will show a countdown from 9 to 0 while the preheating is active.
• Step 5: Press the power button twice to cycle between temperature settings.
• Step 6: Press and hold the power button for up to 30 seconds to heat the coil and vaporize the wax. While the device heats the coil, you can inhale from the glass mouthpiece.

Vapor Quality

The Lookah Dragon Egg vaporizer has pros and cons when it comes to vapor quality. It’s designed to be easy to use and affordable, making it a good choice for beginners. The device heats up quickly because of its special quartz coils, which are great for producing large clouds of vapor. However, it’s important to clean the coils regularly to avoid a burnt taste and keep them in good condition.

With the Dragon Egg, you can control the heating manually by pressing the power button for up to thirty seconds. This gives you control over how much vapor is produced. The device also features unique wax quartz coils called 710-C, which help save wax and ensure smooth airflow. The coils are separate from the heating area, which makes them easy to maintain.

However, the Dragon Egg has a quick heat-up time that can occasionally lead to less precise temperature control for concentrates. This, in turn, can affect the quality of the vapor it produces. As I’ve mentioned earlier, the Dragon Egg doesn’t appear to be designed for generating high-quality vapor, likely due to its lower price and overall form. Nevertheless, it’s important to note that price isn’t an excuse for its lower vapor quality, as other affordable units like the Core 2.1 and Utillian 8 can produce vapor on par with premium E Rigs such as the Carta 2.

Manufacturing Quality

This Electric Dabb Rig has a helpful display that shows the battery level and voltage. The design is cool, too; it looks like a dragon egg and fits nicely in your hand. 

The water cup on the Lookah Dragon Egg has legs, giving it a unique appearance. It screws onto the main body so it stays securely in place. This is great for a portable device because it increases longevity in terms of lowering the chances of it falling and breaking. It doesn’t come with a dab tool for handling concentrates, which could be an issue if you’re new to this.

Additionally, there are a couple of things that could be improved. The ribs on the bubbler are just for decoration and don’t actually cool the vapor any more than usual. Also, when cleaned with isopropyl alcohol, there were some marks on the downstream and water bowls, but the mouthpiece was unaffected. Temperature Flexibility

The Lookah Dragon Egg comes with three temperature settings to choose from. 

• 3.2 Volts – Green LED
• 3.6 Volts – Blue LED
• 4.0 Volts – White LED

The Dragon Egg works differently from other devices that let you control the temperature precisely. With the Dragon Egg, you have to adjust the temperature manually. To increase the temperature, you press and hold the button, and to cool it down, you release the button. Because the chamber doesn’t heat up consistently unless you are holding the button down, finding the best temperature for your dabs may take some practice. It’s like a dance of pressing and releasing, aiming to get the perfect hit, which can be tricky.

Due to its lack of precise temperature control, the Dragon Egg requires more hands-on involvement. You’ll need to experiment to find the best temperature setting that suits your preferences.

Portability

When considering the Lookah Dragon Egg for on-the-go use, it’s important to weigh both its advantages and limitations. The Dragon Egg is not the most portable option out there, especially when compared to simpler devices like wax pens or dry herb vaporizers. Its unique design, while visually appealing, adds a bit of bulk that might not slip easily into a bag and definitely not into your pocket.

With that said E Rigs are not really known for being specifically designed to be portable, even if some are more portable than others. If portability is not your main concern, the Dragon Egg can still provide some value for you.

Battery Life

The Lookah Dragon Egg comes with a battery that is decent but not the best on the market. Once fully charged, you can use it about 20-30 times on a medium setting before needing to recharge.

The kit doesn’t include a USB-C charging cable, which is disappointing. Charging the device from zero to 100% takes around two hours, so it’s a long wait before you can use it again. The device does have some safety features like charging protection and battery protection, which are important for any electronic device.

It also has a low battery reminder, coil short circuit/open circuit protection, and reminders, which are great for peace of mind. There are definitely units that have better battery life but might not be as portable. If portability is really all you’re after, I would recommend using a powerful Wax Pen such as the Utillian 5 and pairing it with a Glass bubbler for water filtration. 

At the end of the day, it’s up to your preferences and priorities when choosing the right device for you.

Ease of Use

In the world of E Rigs, where gadgets can be as complicated as a space shuttle, the Dragon Egg keeps things simple. It has a basic LED display that shows everything clearly without confusing colors.

The LOOKAH Dragon Egg has some advanced technology, but it’s very easy to use. It only has one button, so even beginners can use it without any problems. And if you forget to turn it off, it has a special five-click safety feature to help you out.

The goal is to make things easy, so you can relax and enjoy without spending too much. It may not be the fanciest e-rig available, but it gets the job done well for its price. Just be careful not to put too much wax in the chamber so as not to damage any components and keep your unit functioning for as long as possible.

Overall Experience

The Lookah Dragon Egg is like the Humpty Dumpty of vape rigs, except this egg’s got a screen that won’t leave you guessing about its battery life – no nursery rhymes needed. It’s shaped like an egg, but don’t worry, it won’t roll off and have a great fall; it’s got its own little stand, like a nest, to keep it safe and sound.

The vapor quality is ok, especially considering the price. It heats up fast and makes big clouds, but you have to keep it clean to avoid a burnt taste. The manual heating means you have to play around a bit to find the best temperature for your dabs.

Because of its shape and size, the Dragon Egg isn’t the easiest thing to carry around. But it’s sturdy and has a unique design, which might make up for its lack of portability. If being able to take your vape everywhere is important to you, I would opt for a powerful Wax Pen like the Utillian 5. 

Overall, the Lookah Dragon Egg is a solid choice if you’re getting into concentrates or you want something that’s good value for money.
