Review: Linx Ember
How it Works
As with most pen vaporizers, the Linx Ember is quite straightforward to use. After loading your concentrates, 5 quite clicks of the button in quick succession will power the unit on, while three rapid clicks will let you cycle between the three temperature settings.
Double clicking the button will engage the heater for 12 seconds, signaling the start of your session.
Temperature Flexibility
The Linx Ember carries three different voltage settings 3.3, 3.8, and 4.2v. This is a reasonable amount of versatility for a budget unit, considering some more expensive pieces dont even have adjustable temperature.
While three settings are definitely sufficient, we always prefer fully adjustable temperature control like the one offered on the Tourist 2-in-1 Vaporizer.
Vapor Quality
The Linx Ember does quite well at the price. The single coil wrapped quartz rod does well at preserving flavor while delivering a strong hit. Its not quite as powerful as devices like the Utillian 5 that has two coil designs, however, its a tradeoff were willing to accept for such a compact unit.
The lowest voltage setting gives flavorful, smooth vapor, while the highest generates some great cloud production and heavy hits! The vapor is relatively smooth, however, the short vapor path doesnt quite compete with units with more intricate cooling systems.
Manufacturing Quality
The stainless steel build feels nice in the hand and feels quite durable just like its brother the Linx Blaze. However, weve also found it to be prone to scratches and scuffs if abused. It has a nice weight to it and it feels nice in the hand when using it, and aesthetically its a nice piece!
It doesnt come with much, however, you cant really expect too much for the price. Included is a USB charger, the battery, atomizer, mouthpiece, and a box which doubles nicely as a carrying case.
Battery Life
Packed inside is an average 350mAh battery, which will allow you to have hits throughout the day without worrying about having to top up mid-way through. The included USB charger will top up the device from flat until full in roughly 1.5-2 hours time.
Its definitely a touch better than other inexpensive units, though not quite as impressive as something like the Source Orb 4 premium kit with nearly double the battery life.
Portability
As its a wax pen vaporizer, its exceedingly portable. Hiding away well in practically any pocket without taking up much room at all, it can go nearly anywhere with you.
It is however a step below other units like the Yocan Evolve Plus, which has an integrated storage compartment.
Ease of Use
Geared for beginner and intermediate users, the Linx Ember is very straightforward to use. If sharing with friends or strangers, almost no coaching will be required in order to get solid results, unlike the Linx Ares Honey Straw where you have to struggle with the device when using a small amount of concentrates.
Cleaning is also a very straightforward process, as a simple soak in isopropyl alcohol for the atomizer and mouthpiece will get rid of any build-up and residue with ease. Make sure to check out our guide on how to clean a vape pen if you want the complete procedure on how to do this.
Discreetness
Unlike the Puffco Peak which is portable but has the least discreetness, most people will dismiss the Linx Ember as a typical e-juice vaporizer, making it a solid unit for stealth in those situations where discretions important.
Of course, youll want to be mindful of any odor that the unit will put out.
Overall Experience
For beginners or those who want in inexpensive wax vaporizer with solid performance, the Linx Ember is a pretty good candidate! If youre willing to sacrifice some portability for the best possible vapor quality wed recommend the Puffco Peak that can give quality sessions anywhere between 15 and 20.
If youre just looking for a straightforward budget wax pen vaporizer, you really cant go wrong with the Linx Ember!
