Dynavap M 2020 Review – Click It or Ticket

Updated: March 26, 2024

Dynavap has been in the game for around 5 years now and it’s very clear they are here to stay. The Dynavap M 2019 is a favorite among tactile connoisseurs and the 2020 M seems to be a big improvement on an already great model.

They’ve changed the tip, the cap, the airport, the packaging, and the body, and we’re super excited to see what they’ve done. Check out our review of the Dynavap M 2020 below!

Review: Dynavap M 2020

How it Works

The Dynavap system takes a departure from most vaporizers we review in that it has no electronic parts whatsoever. It’s not as intuitive as something like the Zeus Arc S Hub, but the learning curve to getting good vapor is pretty small.

Load the tip up with some ground herb, pack it down gently and replace the cap. Aim your torch roughly halfway down the cap so the blue part of the flame touches the cap. Rotate the entire unit to get a more even cook throughout the chamber.

Depending on your torch and method, the tip will click anywhere between 5-30 seconds. Once you hear the click, remove the flame and inhale and enjoy – cover the carb cap for stronger, more powerful hits.Dynavap M 2020 inclined view

Temperature Flexibility

The Dynavap does not have a temperature system, per se, but it all comes down to your torch technique. You have full and complete control, but the learning curve to getting exactly the type of hits you want from the Dynavap is steeper certainly than an electronic device with temperature control. After 5 or so sessions it will become second nature.

Just make sure you don’t keep heating for too long after the click or you will combust your material – hey, we’ve all done it! Another big thing to note is the type of torch you are using. A dual flame torch will heat the Dynavap much quicker than a single flame.

Users who want full and complete control of their temperature tend to prefer something like the Utillian 620, which has precise temperature control.

Vapor Quality

The Dynavap can be surprisingly powerful despite the bowl size. It is one of if not the best dry herb vaporizer under $100 in terms of vapor quality. It usually takes me 2 hits to extract the full bowl, but those two hits are in beast mode – and you don’t use a lot of herb at all – the chamber packs in about .25-.4 grams.

The vapor is a little harsher than you might like due to the short vapor path, but the flavor is great – not quite as good as a convection vaporizer like the Utillian 722, but hey, you can’t win ‘em all.

Manufacturing Quality

As we stated above, there are a lot of changes to the 2020 model of the Dynavap that affect your experience.

Dynavap has made changes to almost every part of the unit, so we’ve broken it down into sections.

The Tip

The tip of the 2018 M featured a triple helix, the 2019 M had “serpentine airflow channels” and the 2020 tip is faceted with horizontal airflow serrations. The vaping experience is getting better and better as the years go on and they continue to fine-tune their flagship model, which deserves praise in and of itself.

They have also added the ability to adjust your bowl to any size you’d prefer by placing the screen in different places. I must say I haven’t used this feature yet, as the bowl of the M is the perfect size in my opinion.

The “Captive” Cap

The VapCap got a small update – they’re calling it the Captive Cap – it now comes with grooves on both sides to help secure the cap on. It can still be easily removed by sticking it onto the magnetic part of the DynaStash. This makes it less likely to slip off by accident.

The new tip also has stronger clicks, which will make it harder to miss the click when it happens, and therefore a smaller chance of combustion, which is great, especially for new users.

The Chiral Airports

Dynavap even changed the airport to become two airports for “calibrated high turbulence air injection” which is just a fancy way of saying the air will be more disturbed when passing over the chamber.

This will lead to a more even distribution of heat and an even cook. In practice, I’ve noticed minimal changes, but it’s not like they had much to improve on!

The Body

Dynavap has changed the body once again to look somehow even sleeker than its predecessors. It looks and feels better in the hand, and rolls better when heating the device.

The mouthpiece has also changed to have the O-Ring set in a little more, and it is certainly snugger. They’ve also tapered it to fit a 10mm down stem, which is nice for anyone who likes to run this unit through a water piece.

Portability

The entire Dynavap line is very small. It is the same size as a one-hitter, and even in the DynaStash it fits neatly into your pocket – don’t forget your torch!

It fits in any and all hands really well and can easily be taken with you on the go for a day out. If you’re going to take a hit on the go, just remember that the tip gets very hot before you slide it back into your hand!

If you want a battery powered vaporizer they doesn’t take up much real-estate then you may want to check out the LITL 1.

Ease of Use

The Dynavap is certainly intimidating at first, unlike the 421, as it is completely unlike most dry vaporizers on the market.

But after a few sessions, it starts to become second nature.

You’ll definitely need to do a bit of coaching when giving it to friends – I recommend doing the work for them the first time, and maybe just let them cover the carb cap so they feel like they’re contributing.

Cleaning is very straightforward as the whole unit comes apart with ease. Remove the O-Rings and drop all of the stainless steel pieces into isopropyl alcohol.

Shake it up a bit and wait about 10 minutes. I have found that after one quick cleaning session most of the gunk and nasty bits will be gone, and a cotton swab will take care of the rest.

Discreetness

Not going to lie, heating this guy in public is a recipe for disaster. That being said, a session takes very little time – under a minute most times.

As stated above, it fits super easily into any hand for quick concealment, though remember that the cap gets very hot!

Overall Experience

The Dynavap M 2020 is a very unique device, and Dynavap has worked to improve it a lot over the 2019 model.

Advancements on almost every aspect make this one of the best boutique vaporizers you can get, and the differences between the 2019 and 2020 all definitely increase the vapor quality and overall experience.

Mircrodosers who may want the benefit of a digital display and temperature control may benefit from upgrading to the Utillian 620.
