Yocan Groote Oil Pen Battery Review – I am Groote

Updated: October 6, 2023

Yocan has been releasing a plethora of cheap and simple options for pre-filled cartridges and atomizers. The Yocan Groote is looking to be another example of this, its getting hard to tell the difference between all the new units they’ve added to their lineup of Yocan vaporizers such as the Yocan Wit and Rega.

Let’s take a closer look at the Yocan Groote in our review down below and see where it excels…and where it falls flat in terms of performance. If this is your first oil pen vape and your not sure where to start, why not check out our Best Oil Vape Pen ranking. It lists all the best and brightest the oil pen vape industry currently has to offer.

Review: Yocan Groote

Manufacturing Quality

Located on the side of the Yocan Groote is a single power button that can be used to cycle the device between an on and off state while also serving as the main firing button for the kit.

The button feels solid enough for now, but with Yocan’s track record for cheap manufacturing we will see how long it lasts. When held in hand, the Yocan Groote feels about as ergonomic as you’d expect a rectangle to feel. It feels a bit chunkier and less round than a Bic lighter.

A bright LED light highlights the power button and acts as an indicator for the currently selected power/voltage setting as well as letting you know just how much power is left in the battery.

Power Flexibility

Despite its small size the device still manages to offer up to three power/voltage modes depending on your preference or desired strength.

The 510 connection port on the Yocan Groote is also sized to accommodate cartridge sizes as compact as 9mm in diameter up to larger tanks measuring 11.5mm in diameter.

Also, the Yocan Groote has support for a preheat function which primes the cartridge for when you’re ready to take a puff, ensuring full performance, vapor, and flavor right off the bat.

Portability

With the dimensions of the Yocan Groote measuring out to 60*28*14mm its one of the more compact battery mods that we’ve managed to get our hands on so far.

The slim profile, as well as the minimal height, make it easy to pocket.

The Yocan Groote also has support for lanyards further bolstering your ability to tote the Yocan Groote around without the worry of accidentally dropping and/or losing it.

There is a downside to all this unfortunately and lies mostly with the rather minuscule battery life, a result of the relatively tiny 350mAh battery that’s squeezed into the already small chassis. Considering how the much slimmer Yocan Stix has a 320mAh battery, the battery rating on the Groote is slightly disappointing.

While the Yocan Groote’s battery can stand up to the light and sometimes even medium use, heavy vapers will find the battery life on this thing to be sorely lacking for a full day’s worth of rigorous use.

Ease of Use

Thanks to the implementation of a single power button, setting up and using the Yocan Groote is as straightforward as it gets. The Yocan Groote is capable of reaching a full charge within 30 minutes via the micro USB port.

Similar to other Yocan devices in its size category, the Yocan Groote also uses a magnetic thread-on the adapter which allows for easy removal of the oil cartridge from the battery for quick disassembly and storage.

Turning the device on or off is done with a simple 5 clicks on the power button while the pre-heat function is activated with 2 clicks to turn on and another 2 clicks to turn off. 3 clicks on the power button cycles between the 3 available power/voltage settings (low, medium, high).

Overall Experience

Paltry battery life aside, the Yocan Groote doesn’t do much to set itself apart from the rest of the Yocan lineup.

If you don’t see yourself vaping on this device the entire day and only want it for light to moderate vaping, it’s still a contender for your vaping bucks as one of the more portable devices that this form factor has to offer.

For a slimmer form factor and more premium feel we recommend checking out the Vessel oil battery.
