Yocan has made a name for itself in the vaporizer market with a range of innovative and user-friendly products, and the Yocan Evolve Plus XL is no exception. This pen-style Wax Pen is robust and comes with a 1400mAh internal battery almost as big as the Utillian 5. But how does it stack up against the Best Wax Pens, and do its features work as advertised?

How it Works
The Yocan Evolve Plus XL works exactly like most Wax Pens do, although it does have a couple of extra features that make it more appealing than your run-of-the-mill option. Before using the device, I recommend charging it fully. To get the Yocan Evolve Plus XL up and running, follow these steps:
Step 1: Connect the atomizer base to the battery by screwing it in place.
Step 2: Distribute your wax evenly across the four coils. For optimal performance, avoid overloading.
Step 3: Press the power button 5 times to turn the unit on.
Step 4: Hold the button and inhale.
Temperature Flexibility
Though Yocan Evolve Plus XL has only one heat setting, it has around 3.8 volts of power. This setting tends to be in the higher range of most Dab Pens, and sometimes, they don’t even reach this high of a setting. For that reason, vapor production is quick but will result in lower flavor profiles.
With that said, the Evolve Plus XL heats up in just 2-5 seconds, which is definitely a plus. As a wax pen user, I find that not having temperature control can be quite limiting. Since with most devices, I like to figure out how to use the temperature range to the fullest. I do see the benefit in having a single temperature, though, and that’s for beginners.
Using my Evolve Plus XL, I’ve also noticed that the voltage output changes depending on the battery’s charge level. This means I have to be careful not to let the battery discharge too much, or else the performance really starts to decline.
On average, most standard Wax Pens include around 3 temperature settings, with some units, like the Utillian 2, offering 4 voltages. Overall, I think the Evolve Plus XL could have a better system in place, maybe offering even just one other setting that’s on the lower side so that users can choose between flavorful vapor and lots of vapor.
Vapor Quality
While ambitious in its design, the Yocan Evolve Plus XL falls short of delivering the vapor quality one might expect from such a device. It promises voluminous clouds, particularly thanks to its one temperature setting. And while it can produce a good amount of vapor since the quality isn’t really the best when it comes to taste.
The main problem with the Yocan XL is that the coils are positioned along the outside of the chamber, forming what is basically a square when you look inside. This means there is a big opening in the middle of the coils that is just empty space. Also, it’s important to mention that to consistently get the highest-quality vapor possible, you need to keep your chamber clean. Coils are harder to clean than bucket-styled chambers like the Focus V Aeris, which is a 3D chamber. With a bucket-styled chamber, you can simply use a cotton swab between sessions, while with coils, you will need to soak them in 99% alcohol and wait for them to dry to reuse.
While the quad coil atomizer makes it very clear that this is designed for big rips, I found using it to be more frustrating than anything. The problem is that this device tries to be portable and compact while also delivering powerful hits. It seems like trying to do both things at once doesn’t work well with this design. In my opinion, if I want a bigger hit, I would prefer using a device specifically designed for that purpose. Or I would have incorporated a 3D type of chamber like those you find on some E Rigs like the Utillian 8.
Manufacturing Quality
The Yocan Evolve Plus XL has a decently unique four-coil atomizer design. However, this feature, which should be a remarkable breakthrough, turns out to be a double-edged sword.
The coil system in the Yocan Evolve Plus XL was designed with four heating elements to impress users. However, this design also brings some practical difficulties. The coils are placed too far apart on a surface that doesn’t absorb heat well, called quartz. Because of this, there are noticeable gaps between the coils. These gaps cause the vaporization of the wax to be uneven and make it difficult to load the device. It seems like the focus was more on making the product look good rather than ensuring it functions well.
Despite these challenges, the Yocan Evolve Plus XL does have some good features. It includes a built-in wax container with two compartments for conveniently storing wax. This is similar to the Tronian Gammatron, which also comes with Wax storage and definitely gives the Evolve Plus some big points in my eyes. It also features adjustable airflow which might really be the only way to customize your sessions somewhat.
Battery Life
The Yocan Evolve Plus XL comes with a 1400mAh battery, which is enough to last a little over a day with moderate use. If you are a heavy user, you’ll find yourself charging it at least once. However, due to the lack of USB-C charging, it takes two hours to charge it with the included micro-USB cable.
Battery size is important, but it’s not the only factor I consider. The Yocan Evolve Plus XL has a large capacity, but its battery isn’t very efficient. For instance, the Gammatron has about half the capacity, but it can provide around 50 sessions and charges faster because it uses USB-C.
So, while I wanted to give this unit props for having a large battery, it doesn’t really work like I thought it would. With that said, it’s still a larger battery which I don’t want to take away from, but I also wouldn’t say it’s as powerful as it should be with that type of capacity.
Portability
While a powerhouse in its own right, it is not the most portable vaporizer out there. Which was expected with the XL in its name. However, it still fits in most pockets, although not comfortably.
While the Yocan Evolve Plus XL is formidable in its capabilities, it wasn’t crafted with portability as a priority. I really have a soft spot for one particular feature, though. The Yocan Evolve Plus XL has a built-in Wax container. Ive mentioned this already but when it comes to portability it is super handy.
The built-in dual-compartment wax container of Evolve Plus XL, although convenient, adds to its bulk, further complicating its portability. It’s a device better suited for home use, where its power and capacity can be fully appreciated without the constraints of travel.
Ease of Use
This should be as easy to use as any other wax pen. In fact, this is the only case where I think a single temperature can be useful for some. It’s much easier to use if you don’t have the option to customize your sessions.
On the other hand, its bulkier nature may be a bit of a bother when on the move, as I’ve explained earlier in the post. I don’t want to have to keep my vaporizer perfectly upright or divide my wax into four equal portions just to avoid burning coils. The coil cap is also odd. It just adds a step in the wax loading process, and this is something that most pens don’t have.
As far as cleaning and maintaining the device goes, the chamber might be a little annoying to clean up due to its design with space in the middle.

Discreetness
When considering the discreetness of the Yocan Evolve Plus XL, it’s important to assess the various aspects that contribute to its stealth factor. It’s on the bigger side for a wax pen, but it’s still small enough that you should be able to conceal it.
The size and design of the Evolve Plus XL make it stand out a bit more. It’s not necessarily huge, but it does feel a bit more conspicuous than some other sleek and slim wax pens. The bulkiness can make it harder to carry around discreetly, especially if you’re trying to be low-key in public places.
On top of that, the Evolve Plus XL produces thicker clouds of vapor, which can attract more attention. While some people might love the big vapor production, it can be a drawback if you’re aiming for a more private session. Sadly, you cannot even control the temperature and vapor of the device which makes it hard to be discreet in a public place.
On that note, the fact that there’s less preparation involved with having your session thanks to the single temperature and quick heat-up time, you might be able to sneak a quick hit while on the move.
Overall Experience
I’ve been trying out this Wax Pen, and here’s the deal: it’s got a decently strong battery and can make big clouds because of those four coils. I really liked the built-in dual-compartment silicone storage area. This is handy if you like to keep your wax with you.
The adjustable airflow system lets you customize your vaping experience, but the quad coil setup can make loading evenly a bit tricky.
The Evolve Plus XL‘s battery life is a big plus for heavy users. The absence of USB-C charging is a major setback, and it’s an area where Yocan could improve in future iterations. If you’re an occasional user, the device could last several days on one charge.
Overall, I do want to mention that this unit is surprisingly affordable which makes sense when it comes to its build quality. Yocan is known for making affordable units and of all the ones I’ve seen this is one of their best attempts at making a bigger more powerful unit.
