Yocan Cylo Wax pen review

Another Wax Pen has made it to the market this year, and this time, it’s thanks to Yocan. They are a popular manufacturer known for making affordable and stylish Vaporizers. The Vaporizer in question is called the Yocan Cylo, and it has a few features that make it relevant in today’s ample Wax Pen market.

In this Yocan Cylo review, we’ll explore how well it works and who its best suited for. We will also be comparing this Dab Pen to other proven & popular options such as the  Utillian 5 and the Gammatron. With that said, users can always check out how the Cylo ranks amongst its competitors by peeking at the Best Wax Pens Ranking page we created for you.

Whether you’re a seasoned vaper or new to the scene, the Cylo has features that can be great for both. So, come along as I unpack the Yocan Cylo’s features and help you determine if it’s a useful match for your vaping.

How It Works

How to use the Yocan Cylo

Using Yocan Cylo is pretty straightforward. Like any other Wax Vaporizer, I recommend charging the device fully before your first use to get the most out of it. Here’s a step-by-step guide about how to use Yocan Cylo:

  • Step 1: Press the power button five times to turn the unit on.
  • Step 2: Press the “+” or “-” button to adjust the temperature level.
  • Step 3: Adjust the Sessions Timer by triple pressing the power button to show timer options.
  • Step 4: Double tap the Power Button to start preheat mode.
  • Step 4.5: Alternatively, engage the heating element by holding the power button.
  • Step 5: Inhale the produced vapor through the mouthpiece and release the button to stop heating.

Remember that you can use preheat and on-demand modes to get the most out of your sessions. Start with preheat and follow up with a 5-second long press of the power button to finish off your session.

Vapor Quality

Vapor quality of the Yocan Cylo

When it comes to vapor quality, the Yocan Cylo offers a competitive option for those seeking budget-friendly vaporizers. The vapor path includes a short silicone mouthpiece, which, while not UV-treated, performs adequately for casual users. The untreated silicone, possibly oil-treated for smoothness, may decrease the overall vapor experience, but it remains a solid choice for those prioritizing cost-effectiveness over premium vapor quality.

The Yocan Cylo features a unique C4 DE Plus coil, made of porous blue material. This innovative design ensures efficient heating of the concentrate through its small holes.

Compared to a similar heating chamber structure, such as a glass pallet chamber found on the Gammatron, which also uses porous material, the C4 coil is good at producing a lot of vapor but compromises slightly on quality.

Overall, the Yocan Cylo, with its unique C4-DE Plus Coil, offers a distinct experience that some may find preferable. Still, it demands a more meticulous loading and cleaning approach to shine truly. It’s important to note that the Yocan Cylo is compatible with the 510-threaded connection, which makes it a versatile choice for those who prefer using 510-thread batteries.

Manufacturing Quality

Yocan Cylo Manufacturing Quality

The Yocan Cylo’s manufacturing quality is decent. The device boasts a well-crafted body with a sleek design and a color display that, while reminiscent of an Atari game from the 1990s, fits well with the overall aesthetic. The mechanical engineers behind the components have done a commendable job, ensuring the unit looks appealing and functions adequately.

The Yocan Cylo features a ceramic heating chamber that ensures pure and clean vapor production. The 0.96-inch TFT screen is also very well crafted, offering a crisp, multi-color display that remains visible even under direct sunlight—a feature that’s particularly useful for outdoor enthusiasts.

The customizable rainbow-breathing LED lights add a touch of personalization, while the magnetic link provides a secure and convenient connection between the components. The OLED display is also intuitive, clearly presenting essential information such as battery life, voltage level, puff counter, and Ohms rating. This level of detail is beneficial for beginners who are still getting accustomed to the nuances of dab pens.

However, the same level of care does not extend to all parts of the device. The silicone mouthpiece, for instance, is not the best for users who prioritize vapor quality and flavor. It is, however, a more affordable component. The mouthpiece’s quality starkly contrasts the otherwise well-made body, suggesting a disparity in the budget allocation for different parts of the device.

Overall, the Yocan Cylo is an okay choice for those venturing into the world of dab pens. They don’t focus on quality but on a good-looking device that does the job.

Temperature Flexibility

Temperature of the Yocan Cylo

Affordable units usually lack temperature sensors but still manage to get the job done. The Yocan Cylo, with its precision temperature control, tries to stand out in the wax pen market. However, its utility might be limited to a niche audience of connoisseurs and casual users. The voltage ranges from 2.0V to 4.2V, and it is also adjustable in 0.1V increments.

The 2.0V setting is better suited for producing smooth, flavorful vapor. However, due to the choice of materials, the vapor might not be as flavorful as it could be with a higher-quality material. Still, it’s nice to see a wide range of voltages, and the precise control is a nice touch.

However, you can increase your temperature to the max if you want more intense vapor production and potent clouds. The more you increase the temperature, the more intense vapor you will get. This broad voltage range not only provides versatility in vapor production but also makes the Cylo suitable for a wide array of concentrates, each with its own optimal vaporization point. Also, the Cylo is very good at producing large amounts of vapor even though its not super flavorful.

Now, some users would prefer simple temperature presets over precise control, if that means they get to have flavorful vapor. Units such as the Utillian 5 might be a better choice. Four voltage settings simplify the process, eliminating the need for constant adjustments to achieve the perfect settings. It also comes with a Zirconia Mouthpiece, but keep in mind that the U5 is more expensive, allowing them to use higher quality materials.

Portability & Discreetness

Yocan Cylo Portability

Yocan designed their Cylo vaporizer for modern consumers. The sleek design makes it portable and easy to carry and slip into a pocket or small bag while on the go. The device’s smooth surface and ergonomic shape ensure it can be gripped securely.

However, due to the device’s overall design, you will need to carry a few extra accessories. For example, since the cyclo has a bucket-styled chamber, you will also need to have a dab tool that can perfectly place the wax into the center of the chamber. For these types of units, I like to recommend a heated dab tool such as the Utillian Hot Wax Axe since these tools make it extremely easy to drop wax into the chamber without making a mess. You will also need to consider a carrying bag for your concentrate.

Some manufacturers prefer to solve these accessory issues with a built-in dab tool like the Utillian 5, and others prefer to add built-in containers such as the Gammatron. At the end of the day, this comes secondary to the overall form factor, but having these extra features would have made the Cylo much more portable. Still, you only need a heated dab tool and carrying case to allow the Cylo to function at peak capacity.

Discreetness defines how you can hide your device in public. For that, Yocan Cylo comes with the Close Mode that will help your LED lights off at all times to make the device discreet. Its compact form factor is a testament to the careful engineering that prioritizes a low-profile presence. Unlike bulkier models that announce their presence with hefty builds, the Yocan Cylo camouflages itself decently well.

Battery Life

Battery Life Yocan Cylo Wax Pen

The Yocan Cylo boasts a 1400mAh battery capacity, which is quite impressive for its sleek, portable design. This substantial power reserve means that the Cylo can reliably support a day’s worth of use, catering to both the sporadic and the habitual vaper. Whether you’re an occasional user enjoying leisurely puffs or a heavy vaper relying on your device, the Cylo’s battery life won’t leave you stranded.

When it’s time to recharge, the USB Type-C charging technology comes into play, offering a quick and efficient way to restore the battery to full capacity. This modern charging standard is a significant step up from older micro-USB options, providing a more convenient and faster charging experience.

However, if you prefer to take longer sessions, there are Dab pens that are more efficient at this price range. But even so, the Cylo will get the job done without any issues.

Ease Of Use

Ease of use of the Yocan Cylo Dab Pen

The Yocan Cylo comes with four LED light modes, you can choose the visual feedback that suits your situation, from a full spectrum display to a stealthy, light-free session. These modes are useful and innovative for beginners but might not be super useful for experienced users.

The multi-button system works very well and is something we’ve seen on some popular vaporizers. There is a single power button and two extra buttons for customizability; in the case of the Cylo, a “+” and “-” buttons, which make it super easy to navigate the settings.

With that said, it will take you some time to figure out how to fully customize your sessions since there are many options to choose from as far as temperature, session times, puff counters, and lighting modes go.

Maintenance is decently simple, with the exception of the heating chamber. Since the chamber is made of very small holes, cleaning with a Q-tip or wipe is nearly impossible. Sure, you can get to the bigger spaces, but it is very hard to clean the chamber fully.

When it comes to coil care, its design discourages the use of hard objects that could damage the heating element, promoting longevity and consistent performance. However, if you are confused about how to clean Yoncan Cylo, you can read our detailed guide on cleaning a wax pen.

Overall Experience

Yocan Cylo Wax Pen Review

After spending some time with Yocan Cylo, I consider it an average Wax Pen with a sleek design. It feels familiar yet innovative. The magnetic mouthpiece, the crisp TFT screen, and the LED settings customization all contribute to a simple session.

Do consider that you won’t get high-quality vapor with this unit, but that in itself is why I think the Cylo works. If Yocan had attempted to make higher-quality vapor, they would not have made the unit as affordable.

And at the end of the day, that’s what I appreciate about the Cylo.  Its straight forward nature and the pricepoint it comes at. Its clear to see that Yocan wanted to make a very attractive unit that would work on the go. They didn’t try to make the best Wax Pen, and I commend them for it since there are definitely users out there who simply want a unit that works for a decent price.

The 1400mAh battery capacity is also sufficient for daily vaping needs, and the USB Type-C charging means you’re quickly back in action when you need a recharge. While the Cylo doesn’t have the larger battery capacity of the Utillian 5 or the integrated storage of the Tronian Gammatron, it stands out with its own unique charm. However, if you’re curious about how it compares to other dab pens, be sure to check our Wax Pen rankings for a more straightforward look into the best devices on the market.

Thank you for considering my perspective on the Yocan Cylo. I hope my insights shed light on what this remarkable device has to offer and help you make a decision that enhances your vaping experience. Until my next review, keep vapin!
