Vivant Rift Preview – Closing the Rift

Updated: October 6, 2023

We’ve checked out a few different devices by Vivant like the Vivant Incendio and the Vivant Alternate, which both left us satisfied but hoping for a little more. The Rift brings some innovation to the table with the modular, tri-sectioned heating chamber. Keep in mind that the three chambers don’t each have independent temperature control, which may be disappointing to some. Check out what else we have to say about the Vivant Rift in our review!

If this is your first dry herb vaporizer, check out our useful dry herb Vaporizer Buyers Guide to help you understand more about what you’re getting into!

Note: The Vivant Rift has still not officially released yet and some changes may occur between the time of this review and the launched product!

Vivant Rift Review

How it Works

The Rift has a few different functions. We’ll go through each of these individually.

On-demand mode will heat up the chamber very quickly, however for only a short time. This is ideal for only taking a couple of draws at a time and leaving the rest of your herb for later while preserving flavor, potency, and battery life. Currently, on-demand mode heats up in around 10-15 seconds.

Session mode can be engaged by three quick clicks. In session mode, it leaves the chamber heating for a pre-determined session time, which is better for using all your herb in one sitting, better for when sharing with groups. Conveniently, you can opt to add 30 seconds to the session before it ends, which is a handy feature for sure.Vivant Rift buttons

There’s also individual settings for concentrates and flower mode, as well as a ‘Turbo’ function which will push the unit to the limits to deliver a big, on-demand hit.

Temperature Flexibility

The Rift has a good amount of versatility, with a mode for flower and concentrates and incremental temperature control with the use of the respective + and – buttons similar to the Solo 2.

We’re not given precise temperatures to work off of, however, though when that info becomes available we’ll update this section.

Vapor Quality

So is the tri-bowl design a gimmick or does it actually work? To be honest, it’s a little bit of both.

The ridges of the bowl do a great job at giving evenly vaporizing to all your material without requiring any stirring at all, as well as separating your concentrates from your dry herb, allowing you to do both at the same time effectively.

At the same time, we feel as though individual temperature control for each section of the chamber is a hugely missed opportunity by Vivant, as concentrates and dry herb prefer different heat settings something already being similar offered by the Tourist 2-in-1.

On the other hand, the intricate vapor path is quite effective at cooling down the vapor before it reaches your lungs, giving you smoother hits without upsetting your lungs and throat too much. The flavor is also quite nice, and it has typical hybrid vapor quality qualities. Cloud production is solid as well, especially at the higher temperature settings and in concentrates mode.

We can’t wait to see if other heating modules are released someday with different build material, conduction/convection ratios, and other thermal properties. The customization would definitely bring the user experience to the next level!

Manufacturing Quality

While we had some criticisms with the Vivant Alternate’s build quality, the team over at Vivant has done a good job at engineering a quality product with the Rift.

It’s hard to say how long-term reliability will stack up, however, we’re optimistic. Kudos to the engineering team for the impressive vapor path and modular heating element design!

Included with the Rift is the device itself, a cleaning brush, keychain tool, USB charger, 3 * concentrates pads and user manual. This is okay, however, we’ve seen some units at the same price point such as the Zeus Arc GTS Hub include a lot more with it.

Overall, we’re satisfied with the build and design of the unit. From the clever magnetic mouthpiece, modular heating unit, and clever vapor path, it’s certainly a good piece of engineering. The Rift’s firmware can be updated with the Micro-USB port, which is also a good feature for any future firmware updates that can improve the performance of the unit.Vivant Rift top part

Battery Life

Unfortunately, the battery isn’t removable like the other units such as the Flowermate Slick, which is nice for product longevity and of course, making sure you don’t run out of juice when out and about. The battery life varies depending on which mode you have it set to.

You’ll get 1-2 more sessions when using only dry herb rather than concentrates. On-demand mode is good for roughly 3-5 fully packed bowls, and with session mode between 4-6 fully packed chambers.

Though the capacity of the battery isn’t listed, we waged a guess and say it’s around 3000mAh which is pretty strong. It takes roughly 2 hours to top up from flat until full with the included USB cable.

Portability

Roughly the size of Snickers chocolate bar, the Rift is definitely great for portability and hides well in the pocket or a bag. It is a bit hefty due to the metal construction, however not to the point where it’s cumbersome or bulky.

We are concerned about scratches and dings on the attractive metal body, so keep that in mind if you like to keep your units in tip top shape. Users looking for devices that feel light in the pocket usually tend to prefer units like the Crafty+ that is lower in weight and smaller in size as well.

Ease of Use

After the initial learning curve on how to operate the user interface, the Rift becomes quite straightforward to use.

You’ll be able to pass it around to friends and strangers without much instruction at all, and getting good results doesn’t depend on draw or pack technique too much at all.

Cleaning is a different story. The heating element and mouthpiece both pop out easily and clean well with isopropyl alcohol. The heating element was designed specifically for ease of cleaning with cotton swabs which is convenient; however the internal airpath is a different story entirely. There’s no easy way to clean it out, which leads to concerns about build-up and residue in the future. Some users looking usually tend to prefer units like the Arizer Air 2 that is much more easy to clean as compared to the Vivant Rift.

Discreetness

Most people will dismiss the Rift as a unique e-juice vape if they manage to see you using it. It’s small enough to hide away almost entirely in the hand, though it doesn’t rival the size of other units like the Airvape X.

The on-demand and turbo function allows you to take stealthy hits in public in a short time, ideal for those times where discretion is important. Overall, if you’re looking for a stealthy vaporizer, the Vivant Rift is definitely a good unit to consider.

Overall Experience

Keep in mind our review of the Rift is subject to change and the unit that lands at your doorstep may be different than the one we checked out.

Overall, the Rift has a lot of potentials, especially with the modular heating element as well as the session/on-demand mode versatility. If you’re looking for a versatile unit with great portability, the Rift is a good unit to consider!

If you are looking for a multi-material device while you wait for the Vivant Rift check out the Haze Square, which has 4 heating chambers and can do waxes and herbs.
