Utillian 5 vs Yocan Evolve vapor quality

Vapor Quality

The Yocan Evolve Plus is not reinventing the wheel by any means, most especially when you stack it up against the rest of its siblings in the Yocan vapes lineup. Anyone who knows wax pens knows that a dual quartz atomizer has been a staple of the wax pen world for years now. It gets the job done, but its nothing special and you can find this coil on most cheap wax pens on the market.

Vapor is good, not great, the flavor is lacking any real character, and your wax has a tendency to slip off the coils into the bottom of the chamber before it has a chance to be vaped. The Evolve Plus also has zero temperature control so to get the best results you need to pulse the power button so you don’t burn your concentrates.

Right off the bat, the Utillian 5 (V3) has 4 temperature settings that allow you to customize your session a lot better. The lower temperatures give you super tasty hits and the higher temperatures give you knock-you-on-your-ass clouds. Both coils are wrapped around black ceramic coils for superior wicking, you are less likely to have your concentrates fall off the coil.

Instead, they will soak into the black ceramic and wick from there. The triple titanium coils are designed to take larger loads, while the Dual Twisted kanthal is better for your smaller loads. This one goes to Utillian 5.

Manufacturing Quality

The price difference will tell you pretty much all you need to know. The Evolve Plus is a decently built wax pen, don’t get me wrong, but the Utillian 5 is premium, similar to the Tronian Gammatron which offers only the most convenient sessions.

Yocan tries to set itself apart from other wax pen manufacturers with their unique atomizer cap system, which prevents splatter and allows the temperature around the coils to remain hot for a more efficient session. However, the design tends to be a bit flawed as the threads for the caps can easily get gummed up with wax. .

This also can be said for the threading of the mouthpiece of the Evolve Plus, which tends to get stuck in place with oils. If you dont feel like dealing with gummed up threads, the Yocan Magneto with its threadless design is worth looking into.

The Utillian 5 wax pen avoids this by avoiding the use of threading, opting for an o-ring system for their mouthpiece. Splatter is not much of a concern with the Utillian 5 either with the way the black ceramic wicks and the way the mouthpiece is closed off to prevent splash back.

Utillian’s coils are far superior to the Yocan’s and will easily outlast the Evolve Plus’ dual quartz coil which tend to only last a couple of weeks before needing replacement. We found with the Utillian 5 we could use the same coil for months without issue, only needing to replace them when they became too dirty to clean.

If you’re willing to shell out a couple extra bucks, the Utillian 5 has a clearly superior build. It is well machined and rugged. The atomizers use black ceramic instead of quartz, which is much more porous and allows the wax to soak in and wick rather than slip to the bottom of the cup. The end result is more vapor and less wasted wax.

The Utillian 5 wins this category.

Ease of Use

The Utillian 5 has one button operation similar to the Linx Blaze Wax Pen, a great pickup for beginners and vets alike. It is a workhorse when it comes to wax, able to supplement rig like hits when you are on the go, something not a lot of wax pens can boast.

The Yocan Evolve Plus is even simpler to use, but only because of the fixed temperature and allows you less customization.

When it comes to loading the two pens, the Utillian 5 is hands down easier than the Evolve Plus, the coils on the Utillian 5 are closer to the top of the heating chamber, making it easier for you to place your wax on the coils. The Utillian 5 coils are also larger giving you more surface area to work with.

The newly included splashguard and loading tool that comes into the atomizer is also really helpful when it comes to loading the chamber when on the move as it removes the need to bring tools in a seperate pouch or container which is really convenient.

Meanwhile, it can be a real struggle to get your wax onto the Evolve Plus coils, with its deeper dish design and smaller coils.

The winner here is the Utillian 5.

Portability

They are both about the same size and fit in any pocket handily unlike the Puffco Peak. However, the Utillian 5 is hands down easier to load on the go, the chamber caps of the Evolve Plus make it a bit more tricky to load when on the run.

The Utillian 5 wax pen is outfitted with a 1050 mAh battery, fantastic for a full day’s use and then some. It should last frequent users a few days, while the casual user can go weeks before needing a charge. It is a tad larger than most wax pens, but you’ll be happy with the added battery life as most wax pens are around 650 mAh batteries.

The Yocan Evolve Plus has an 1100 mAh battery but in all honesty, you aren’t going to notice the extra 50mah, maybe you will get 1 more hit… maybe. For a similar device with significant battery gains, the Yocan Evolve Plus XL with its 1400mAh battery is worth checking out. Both units use micro-USB charging, so even if you run out of power on the go, they are easily charged to keep you going for the rest of the night.

We will chalk this one up as a tie.

Discreetness

As mentioned before, both the Utillian 5 wax pen and Yocan Evolve Plus share a similar shape and size like most wax pens on the market with a few exceptions like the Source Orb 4 Signature Kit. It is small enough to fit in your hand, and in case shit goes down, it can easily be slipped into a pocket.

You can take a super quick, powerful hit in less than 10 seconds in those tight spots.

This one is a tie.

Temperature Flexibility

This one’s pretty easy – the Yocan Evolve Plus has one voltage setting-, the Utillian 5 has 4 – 2.2, 2.4, 2.6, 2.8V.

I don’t know what else you need to know, the winner here is the Utillian 5.

Users that prefer precise temperature control tend to lean towards the units like the Tourist 2-in-1 vaporizer.

SHOWDOWN

We have a winner! The Utillian 5 wax pen feels like a more complete package and feels like it was designed with the nuances of wax usage in mind.

The lack of threading is a welcome addition, ensuring threads won’t get gummed up over time. The two included coils are bigger and better at wicking due to the use of black ceramic, meaning less wasted wax. Not to mention that the 4 temperature settings allow you to tailor your sessions between tasty sips of wax to face melting clouds.

The Utillian 5 really can deliver a similar experience to your rig while on the go, which tends to be what wax connoisseurs are looking for. This holds especially true if you decide to pick up the Utillian 5 water filter for a more rig-like session. The Yocan Evolve Plus will get the job done, but the utillian vape pen is the more complete experience.
