SMOK Priv One Review – Ready Vaper One

I just reviewed the Aspire Gusto Mini, and my first thought when I saw this was that it was going to be essentially the same vape. I was very wrong about that. As I’m learning to appreciate small mods and vapes more, I’m also realizing that there is a lot of variability in them and they offer very different experiences.

The big difference here is in the tank setup. The Gusto Mini used a special pod system instead of tanks. Those pods come pre-filled with liquid, and there are only a handful of different options to choose between right now. That’s great for people who are looking for something simple, but the SMOK Priv One offers something different.

With its top filling tank and replaceable coils, you get all the portability of the Gusto Mini but with a lot more flexibility. I definitely like that I can use all my favorite juices instead of just the ones offered in pods. The flipside to this is that you also have more maintenance work to do, including changing coils. For anyone that has used a vape before, this shouldn’t be a problem at all.

This vape is still very basic though. There is just one button and no settings to choose. As I’ve explained before, a vape like this has a place as long as it delivers good vapor. I’ll get to that in the next section.

Before we move on though, I think the color options are worth talking about. The look and design of a vape is related to the manufacturing quality, so I figured this is as good of a place to talk about it as any.

There are four options that all have a funky, stained-glass look to them. They’re some of the most unique vapes I’ve ever seen, which may or may not be a good thing. I personally like the way they look but would have also liked to see some simpler options.

If you’ve been using big box mods with 510 carts it may be time to look for something smaller, most vapers tend to start with Yocan Uni Pro for their oil because its much more compact than a mod.

The overall vapor quality is good, and so is the flavor. This comes with a 0.6ohm coil, which allows it to deliver pretty big clouds despite the small size and limited power.

This obviously isn’t going to match the performance of your bigger mods and tanks, but the result is still very enjoyable. If you’ve never tried a vape before, you’ll love both the flavor and vapor production.

It only comes with one type of coil head, but I think you may be able to use others with it. I’ll explain why in a second.

Ease of Use

This is very easy to use. To turn it on, you just click the side trigger five times. To engage the power and take a draw, you click and hold the trigger. Filling the tank is also extremely easy, because it can be done from the top without having to really take anything apart.

The one thing you do have to do is remove the drip tip, then the top tank part slides open just like most SMOK tanks. To replace a coil, you just have to unscrew the setup and put a new one on. 

I like the SMOK Priv One for the same reasons I liked the Aspire Gusto Mini.

Kits like these are a great way to get people started with vaping. They take out the complexity but still deliver a good experience, which is important when trying to get people to switch from smoking.

But these tiny vapes – especially AIOs – also make a great complement to bigger vapes and mods. Just because you love high-powered mods and setups that deliver huge clouds doesn’t mean you can’t also appreciate the value of a vape that you can slip in your pocket to enjoy in situations where portability and discretion are more important.
