Pax Era Life Review – The Cheapest Era

Updated: October 6, 2023

With the ubiquity of Pax devices in the vaping market, it’s really no surprise to see them release yet another compact hard hitter in the form of the Pax Era Life. Think of it as the slightly smaller younger (and cheaper)  brother of the Pax Era Pro. How will it stack up against the rest of the best oil pens on the market only time will tell. While the decrease in price does warrant a few reductions in terms of features, we’ve found the core functionality to be still there. Let’s delve into the details of the device down below in our Pax Era Life review!

How it Works

Staying true to the core mantra of all Pax Era devices, the Pax Era Life is the exemplification of simplicity thanks to it’s sheer ease of use. No buttons, no dials, no screens with convoluted menus; that’s what the Pax Era Life is all about and it shows.

Much like the Tronian Pen, the Pax Era Life operates with a simple yet reliable draw sensor that only activates as you inhale from the mouthpiece. It’s exceedingly easy to set up as all you need to do is insert a Pax Era pod into the vape and inhale. Swapping out pods is quick and painless as well thanks to the clip-in assembly that easily detaches when you want it to but also keeps the pod secure in the Pax Era Life when you’re using it or carrying it about.

One notable area where the Pax Era Life exhibits its budget pricing is the lack of a remote lock feature which could be found in its more expensive brother, the Pax Era Pro. It’s hard to be disappointed though given the substantial gap in pricing Pax has established between these two devices.

Manufacturing Quality

Despite the lower price tag of the Pax Era Life, there’s no real trade-off in durability when comparing it to the more expensive Pax Era Pro. From the precisely machined zinc-aluminium alloy to the vibrancy of the anodization process used to give the Pax Era Life its beautiful color offerings; everything about it exudes quality.

One common point of failure in most other units used for vaporizing medical cannabis in oil form, lies within the physical power button and since the Pax Era Life doesn’t rely on such a mechanism, that’s just one less thing for you to worry about. Pax’s proprietary SimpleClick pods fasten securely into the battery do a great job of keeping the Pax Era Life in one solid piece. You’ll never have to deal with connection issues when vaping on this thing.

Power Flexibility

With power and temperature control by way of the app, you can adjust the temperature setting to your liking. To learn about the best temperature settings for vaping, check out our article.

If you have multiple different pods, the Pax Era Pro is smart enough to distinguish between them and remember the temperature setting for each one – handy if you like to vape on different cartridges throughout the day.

Vapor Quality

While other vaporizers that rely on cartridges have the advantage of letting you use any type of oil or extract you want, that can quickly be a downside as not all cartridges work well with all types of oils. Pax remedies this issue, taking the guesswork out of the users hands by providing their own proprietary pre-filled pods. The list of their offerings is quite extensive and shouldn’t leave even the most discriminating of vapers hanging.

But how does it hit? Phenomenal is a word. And it’s the right word to describe the experience you get vaping on the Pax Era Life. The 2mm silica wick does a great job of absorbing and releasing all the subtle notes from the oils that you’d otherwise miss with other devices. As a bonus, the Pax Era Life manages to retain the same Low Heat Technology used by the Era Pro which means you’ll never experience a burnt tasting hit.

The temperature control on the Pax Era Life is thankfully still present as it does a great job of tailor-fitting your preferences specific to the oil or pod that you’re currently using. This means that you’ll always be getting the most out of every pod and every hit it has to give. The Pax Era Life also supports the same range of pods that its older counterparts have so you won’t have to worry about stocking up on pods and deciding to upgrade to the Era Pro if you feel like doing so. If you are ok with having a bigger device, we recommend the Utillian 8, especially if pure flavor and big clouds are what you’re looking for.

Battery Life

One small trade off that comes with the cheaper price tag of the Pax Era Life is a smaller battery life. Compared to the 250-ish hits that the Era Pro offers, the Pax Era Life promises a minimum of 150 draws on a single full charge. While the battery life of the Pax Era Life might seem small by comparison, it really doesn’t. 150 draws is still a lot but then again Pax has left that up to their customers to see if the increase in battery life is worth the bigger price tag on the Era Pro.

Unlike the Era Pro though, the Pax Era Life still manages to hang onto a Micro USB port for charging which is slightly disappointing given how most modern devices have already moved on to using Type-C ports, the Era Pro being a prime example of this. Despite this, the Pax Era Life manages an impressively short charge time of just 45 minutes when charging from empty to full which is par for the course when compared to other Pax Era devices.

Portability

If you thought the Era Pro was amazingly small then be prepared to be amazed again as the Pax Era Life comes up with an even smaller form factor measuring out to a mere 5.25 × 2 × 0.5 in. It also weighs in at an astonishingly light 0.1047 lbs (that’s less than 50 grams!) so it won’t feel like carrying anything at all when taking it along with you on the go. As usual, the caveat for devices this small is that they’re very easy to lose so take care not to lose yours!

Ease of Use

The Pax Era Life is a clear winner in this department as its simple, no-brainer functionality should appeal to just about anyone looking for a no-nonsense vaping setup. Just click the pod in place then inhale from the mouthpiece. That’s pretty much it, especially considering the Pax Era Life doesn’t have the same app support that the Era Pro does which means less clutter that could potentially get in the way of you actually using this thing. The pre-filled pods eliminate the hassle of refilling that’s usually experienced with devices such as the Vessel vape.

Discreetness

Vaping still gets a bad rap in some places and Pax knows this. The Pax Era Life easily blends into obscurity thanks to its diminutive size and unobtrusive design that could easily be mistaken for something as commonplace as a USB flash drive.

Due to its sheer simplicity of use, one could get a hit out of the Pax Era Life in a blink of an eye. You don’t even have to wait for the vape to warm up before you inhale. You definitely aren’t going to get any second glances when using this device in public.

Overall Experience

The Pax Era Life definitely cuts corners in all the right places with its stellar price tag yet performance that manages to keep up with its more expensive counterparts in the market. The fact the Pax Era Life manages to perform so well while being this small (and good-looking too) is a wonder.

The straightforwardness of the design and functionality really ties everything together. Not to mention that the inclusion of temperature control in the Pax Era Life still manages to provide tinker-savvy vapers with the option of getting their vape the way they want it.

You’ll be limited to using Pax’s pre-filled pods but the way those things function and perform, it’s really hard to complain anyway. The only notable downside to the device is its Micro USB charging port which really should be a thing of the past by now and we hope to see all manufacturers abandon this charging technology altogether.
