Magic Flight Launch Box Review

When thinking of a budget vaporizer the first unit that pops into people’s minds is the Magic Flight Launch Box. It has been one of the most popular Portable Vaporizers among younger folks over the last few years. The simple but effective mechanism draws many people to this unit. Recently many fellow connoisseurs have asked me to review this tiny unit so today we will give you a better insight into this unit that quickly established itself as a benchmark in vaporizing.

Magic Flight Launch Box Review

Vapor Quality

Being such a tiny unit with such a simple mechanism we did not expect anything special in terms of vapour quality. However, don’t let the tiny size fool you. Although the mechanism is very simple it works surprisingly well. The frame is made of stainless steel with nickle coating for better conductivity and a more even heating process. And, once you have figure out how long to hold the battery into the unit and how strong to inhale, the unit produced some decent vapour. The vaporization window is between 6-11 seconds. This means you should hold in the battery for 6 seconds before you start drawing and don’t hold it in longer than 11 seconds at a time or it will burn you botanical.
Fine tuning your drawing method is the key to good vapor. Sometimes we held the battery in for too long and the vapour got a bit harsh to inhale. Overall, the unit produced decent vapor for its small size and therefore receives a 5.5/10 in terms of vapour quality.
Users that prefer higher vapor quality and still want a small unit usually tend to lean towards Zeus Arc GT that has a gold vapor path and gold heat sink allowing even heat distribution.

Now if you’re looking to get the best vaporization experience possible with the Magic Flight we’d like to recommend pairing your unit with the new vapor cooling device from ZEUSArsenal, the ZEUS Iceborn. This revolutionary device actually increases the vapor quality of your Magic Flight by 2 points, dramatically cooling it down for smooth frosty draws. It’s also much more efficient than other filtration devices that use water, so you can get even bigger vapor clouds! Take a look!

Magic Flight Launch BoxManufacturing Quality

The launch box is a small wooden box with a very simple heating mechanism. The unit seems sturdy like the LITL 1, and the acrylic glass lid is pretty cool as it allows you to see your botanicals while vaporizing. In the end though, it is a unit built for value rather than quality. What we do like is that Launch Box offers a life-long functional warranty on their units. Furthermore, the Magic Flight comes with a nice pouch and metal tin for storage and therefore deserves 6.5/10 in terms of manufacturing quality.

Temperature Flexibility

Not much can be said about temperature flexibility with this unit. There is only one heat setting and even this setting is not very accurate and consistent. Sometimes the vapour gets too hot, sometimes it stays too cold. The heating mechanism definitely needs some work. Therefore, the Magic Flight Launch Box does not get more than a 1/10 in this category. Seasoned users who are aware of the importance of the heat control for getting to that sweet spot with smooth flavors and large clouds usually tend to prefer devices such as the Utillian 722.

Whatever the Launch Box lacks in manufacturing quality and temperature flexibility, it makes up for in terms portability. The unit itself is not much bigger than a car key and therefore is one of the most portable units in the market similar to the Davinci IQ. In short, you can take it anywhere, anytime. The Magic Flight is the smallest functional portable vaporizer out there and therefore deserves a whopping score of 9.5/10 in terms of portability.

As already mentioned, this handheld vaporizer is one of the smallest vaporizers in the world, even smaller than the Davinci Miqro which is 79mm tall, 35mm wide and 25mm deep. One thing we liked is that the drawing stem is optional which allows you to draw directly from the unit, which makes it even more discrete. What we also liked is that the unit is also completely silent. The only slight drawback is the design. If the battery is in the unit and the drawing stem is attached, the Launch Box does loose some discreteness. However, the unit is still one of the most discreet vaporizers in the world and therefore gets an awesome 9/10 in this category.
If you are on a budget or want an ultra-portable and discreet vaporizer the Magic Flight is a great option for you. It is competitively priced and it’s very small size makes this unit very convenient. We also like the Launch Box for someone who already owns a stationary vaporizer and is looking for something when on-the-go. However, if you value quality, especially in terms of vapour, other units will be better for you. The Magic Flight Launch Box is a fun little gadget and therefore gets a score of 7/10 in terms of overall experience.

Walnut and Cherry MFLBs

One thing that is new to the Magic Flight family are that some of the units now come in different kinds of wood. And we are proud to announce that we are going to be one of the first distributors to offer it in Canada. The MFLB is now available in Cherry Wood and Walnut wood which are actually a higher quality wood than the regular maple. They also look different as cherry wood has a nice reddish color while the walnut wood is nice and dark. What is also great is that you can get your drawing stems in the corresponding wood. Drawing stems also come in cherry wood, walnut wood or the regular maple. We feel that this is an awesome addition to the MFLB family as true connoisseurs definitely value great natural materials like wood for components used to vaporize your favourite botanical.

Compatible with ZEUS Iceborn
This vaporizer is compatible with the ZEUS Iceborn, a revolutionary new vapor cooling system engineered by Canadian vape manufacturer ZEUSArsenal. The Iceborn is designed to produce cooler draws and bigger clouds when connected to your vaporizer. The vapour produced is ultra smooth and crisp and because of ice cooling, instead of water filtration, there is no loss of efficiency. The ZEUS Iceborn adds an additional 2 points to the vapor quality score of this vaporizer and is a highly recommended vaporizer accessory.

I’m a student and I’ve been enjoying the magic flight for a few months now. I didn’t many of the facts stated in this blog. Good to know, very informative. How about a post with suggested upgrades? Say if someone owns a magic flight, what would be a good upgrade or next level up kinda thing?

Stay with the mflb. Practice your technique. Buy powerex 2700’s (stronger batteries) or a power adapter directly from magic flight.

The Magic Flight doesn’t have great vapor quality control or adjustable temp, so something like the Solo that does might be good.

^ I agree with the above poster. If you are looking for a real upgrade from the MFLB you got to start looking at other units. MFLB imo is one of the lower end portables. Something like the SOLO or DaVinci would be my first choices 🙂

So tiny and adorable! Is wood or glass better for draw stems?

glass is always preferable for convenience and purity of taste, but the wood give you a nice feel and it gets better over time. It is like a nice wooden pipe. They tend to get better as they age.

Magic Flight makes shorter drawing wooden drawing stems, right? Do they affect vapor quality?

Not really. the magic flight does not have very good vapor quality to start with so the minute difference of the wooden vs glass would not be noticed. Generally glass is better for vapor quality however.

I bought a Magic Flight launch box and used it for over a year. The only good thing about it is that it’s inexpensive. You are much better off spending an extra $70-$100 to buy a portable vaporizer like the Arizer Solo. Just my thoughts.

It works okay but I don’t like having to handle the battery so often. I would recommend a desktop model for home use but as far as value I would say it is moderate to good. I would not feel bad about recommending it though.

Don’t believe the fake reviews from company employees. This unit is flawed. The box itself has a permanently fixed screen that can’t be removed, replaced or properly cleaned. As a result every time the screen wears out which is usually a few months it requires a warranty replacement of the entire box. Not exactly environmentally friendly. Because it can’t be properly cleaned after a while starts to smell and taste like a dirty pipe. Using batteries is an exercise in futility and the power adapter is cheap chinese junk that breaks the day after the 90 day warranty is up. The pa used to have a lifetime warranty but the company reduced it to just 90 days. That should tell you all you need to know. They come off like cool hippies but challenge them and the real troll comes out.

The control of air flow with the Launch Box is essential in obtaining vaporization and preventing overheating the herb. The instruction booklet gives a good, detailed descriptions of the best methods to obtain optimum performance through controlled intake. The device can be comfortably held within one hand while it is being used so that it remains unobtrusive. Once the rate of intake is mastered there is very little odour and the full effect of the herb is enjoyed!

It is small and discreet! This vape just might get lost in my pocket! I used it last night and really enjoyed it. I treated it a little like a Vapor Genie (VG) in that I kept stirring the herbs between draws. It’s easy to stir with either a shake or a blow back into the chamber. This I like better than the VG because you can see your herb stirring and moving, getting into position for the next draw. I like the visual feedback. The ability to see the herb and move it like this (and it’s size) just might put it at the front of my portable lineup.

It is well made but I am having two issues with it: 1) lack of direct temp control makes vaping my herbs difficult, and 2) holding it is very awkward. In fact, I have yet to have a satisfying vaping session with my MFLB. Since every vaporizer I bought had some learning & experimenting to do. I still take it out now and then to give it another go.
