How it Works

Flicking open the lid shows the smooth surface of the bowl, which you can load up with your ground herb. To close it, simply slide the lid back into its original place.

The magnets will keep it held together and spill-proof. When you want to take a hit just hold the flame of your lighter up to your herb and inhale. It’s not very hard to use a pipe!Journey Pipe 3 inclined view

Manufacturing Quality

The zinc alloy construction is surprisingly lightweight. Very attractive to look at and feels nice in the hands, it doesn’t feel fragile at all and the magnets are pretty sturdy. It reminds us a lot of the aesthetic of the Utillian 5 (V3). The fit and finish is spot on and the machining inside to create an air path for the smoke to follow helps cool it down.

Included in the set is an ultra-basic kit consisting of just the pipe and little velvet carrying pouch. We definitely would’ve liked to see a stir tool or pick similar to what the Eyce Spoon has included, but a toothpick works in a pinch.Journey Pipe 3 detached

Ease of Use

It’s a pipe. If you’re reading this you’ve probably seen someone or have used a pipe yourself. It’s a dead simple process and I’d be shocked if you struggled to learn the Journey Pipe unlike you have to do for the firefly 2+.

Cleaning is a breeze too since the pipe disassembles entirely and allows for simple deep cleaning. Isopropyl alcohol and salt will help get rid of most build-up and grime that accumulates.

Performance

Truth be told, it’s nothing insane. It’s a pipe and it serves its function well. It’s really hard to say how much the little air path helps cool down the smoke, as the difference is marginal and you’ll likely not notice.

This is a smoking device, after all, your throat and lungs will still be irritated regardless of how cool your smoke is. Users that prefer their smoke to cool down before hitting their throats usually tend to prefer the conduction based vaporizers such as the Solo 2.

As it is for a pocket companion, it’s tiny, pretty discreet, and hardly noticeable in your pocket. A good solution for bringing some herb with you on the go without fear of it spilling or needing to fill it up for the first sesh. The bowl is pretty big too, which means it’s good for sharing provided you and your crew can properly corner a bowl.

Overall Experience

It’s sleek, small, and sexy. Also pretty pricey but if you want an ultraportable pipe for on the go and have the coin to spend, it’s not a bad pick. Beats a bowl of spilt herb in your pocket or frustratingly trying to pack a bowl when on the go.

The lid does an alright job of sealing it from any residual odor, but won’t get rid of it entirely. Hard to mask the smell of smoked herb without something that’s completely airtight.

If you’re looking for a slightly more portable combustion setup, feel free to check our Bud Bomb review for a quick peek at a not so fragile chillum.

If you’d like to try vaping for the first time for around the same price as the Journey Pipe be sure to check out the LITL 1.
