Vapor Quality – Does the Carta give you better vapor than the Peak?

The Puffco Peak made a big splash in the dab vaporizer world. It was about the first portable dab rig that performed very well, even with its premium price point. For a while, the Peak reigned king with great flavor, solid hits, and powerful heating element.

Now the Focus V Carta has come along and made another ripple. The performance and flavor with the Focus V Carta glass top really is really solid and at many times matches and even performs better than the Peak.

In addition to all this, the Carta is dry herb compatible as well when pairing it up with the Carta Dry Herb atomizer so you can expect a bit more versatility with your Focus V Carta.

They’re both great devices and while the both perform at equal levels of high quality, we give the slight win to the Carta here! Thick cloud production, great cooling, and solid flavor are all marks the Carta hits and it hits very well!

Temperature Flexibility – Can the Peak’s temperature settings keep up with the Carta?

While the Puffco Peak has four presets to play with, ranging from 450/500/550/600°F, or 232/260/288/315°C, the Carta takes this up a notch.

The Focus V Carta also has preset temperatures, however, you also get the opportunity to use the Bluetooth app and customize this to whatever you want! This additional control definitely takes a big win over the Puffco Peak. For the price they charge, it really should be expected to have full and complete temperature control.

Manufacturing Quality – Is the Peak a better build than the Carta?

Both devices are made quite well! Like most Puffco products, the Puffco Peak is definitely well built and quite sleek, feeling nice in the hand with good glass and good design.

The Carta also has a solid build quality and both space-age devices reflect the price tag in their build quality. Both units too have had complaints about the reliability of the atomizers and unfortunately neither is more reliable than the other.

While not included with the kit, the optional Focus V Carta Everlast atomizer is miles ahead in terms of durability. In fact, Focus even offers a 6 month warranty on the atty, something rarely seen with atomizers.

You actually get a little more in the box with the Carta Focus V and it has a lower price tag by default. While they’re both built very well and include a good amount of kit with the cost, the FocusV Carta edges out a slight win here.

Battery Life – Carta’s removable batteries vs Peak’s internal battery?

While the Puffco Peak has an integrated battery with some solid life allowing for roughly 15-20 strong hits/sessions before dying out, the Focus V Carta battery is replacaeable and comes in a pair of 18350 batteries at 1200mAh, which combine to a total of 2400mAh.

In practice, both have similar battery life, however, the removable aspect of the Focus V Carta gives it an instant win. Not to mention the USB-C charging cable which is better adapted to the future, and the FocusV Carta definitely wins in this category.

Portability – Does the Peak’s hardshell case make it better for travel?

They’re both similar in size, however, the Peak is definitely a bit more bag-friendly that the Carta is.

A bit bulkier and cumbersome than the Peak, the Puffco and its included carrying case take a win in this category. Victory for the Puffco Peak here!

Ease of Use – Is the Carta easier than the Peak?

Both devices have a slight learning curve to get it working properly but overall are much easier than a tradition dab rig with a torch. With either unit, you can pre-load your material or load it when the heating element has reached its ideal temperature.

Cleaning is about as difficult on either unit though the glass pieces do come out for easy cleaning. There’s no real winner here, even if one device may have a very slight edge over the other.

Discreetness – Does the Peak’s design blend in better?

No way to get around it, they’re both pretty chunky and conspicuous in use. Sure they’re portable, but pull this out of your backpack in public and take a hit?

You’ll probably get a few more strange stares than usual. No winner here, neither device is made for portability and neither is more discreet.

Overall Experience – The Focus V Carta tops the Puffco Peak

When comparing Puffco vs Carta Focus V, both devices are really great and worth the price tag. If you dab frequently and want a friendly, group-session device which also hits hard at home than either unit will satisfy you no problem!

In the end, we personally prefer the Carta Focus V with its more versatile use, lower price point, Bluetooth app, and overall experience. The Puffco Peak is definitely a good device still and while it doesn’t have the bells and whistles that the Carta has, you really won’t be disappointed – provided you keep on top of maintenance and treat it kindly!
