Review: Dr Dabber Light

How it Works

As far as vape pens go, the Light is very basic. There are just three sections: the battery, the atomizer, and the mouthpiece. The battery section has a single button, which you use to turn it on and engage the heat.

The atomizer and mouthpiece both screw into place, and that’s pretty much all there is to it. There’s not a lot you can alter about the experience of using the Light. There are only two types of atomizers that they offer that are compatible with the Light, and both are very similar.

While flexibility is typically highly valued, it’s hard to offer a wide feature set at a low price and do everything well. Dr. Dabber’s aim with the Light seems to be to just offer a simple device that produces good vapor from a small package. This isn’t right for everyone, but it is for some.

Temperature Flexibility

Unlike its big brother, the Utillian 2 Wax Pen, there is no temperature flexibility with the Light. You can’t change the voltage or wattage either.

Again, flexibility is not the name of the game with this vaporizer. If that is what you are looking for, you’ll need to look elsewhere, and probably spend a little more money too. As an alternative, the Dr Dabber Stella offers a similar compact form factor but with 4 temperature settings to vape on.

Vapor Quality

Vapor quality is very good, especially when you consider the price point. Among $50 and under pens, it’s definitely one of the best. It even outperforms many higher priced units.

The flavor is what is most impressive. Most cheap pens give off a very burnt taste, especially towards the end of a session. You don’t get any of the typical cheap pen problems with the Light.

With all that being said, don’t buy this and expect it to compare to some of the elites of the wax pen world like the Source Orb 4. This is still a $50 pen, after all. If you want unbeatable flavor, you’ll need to spend more money.

Manufacturing Quality

Manufacturing quality is also very good. This may not have a fancy design like the Linx Blaze, but Dr. Dabber managed to pack a very efficient device into a very small package.

The Light also lives up to its name… it’s noticeably light. Even so, it doesn’t feel cheap. The button protrudes a little far compared to most vapes, but this is something you’ll get used to. If you’re shopping for your first, you won’t even notice.

Battery Life

From what we can tell, Dr. Dabber didn’t publish the specs of the battery. I can tell you that it is internal and quite a bit smaller than the ones used in other Dr. Dabber devices.

In their FAQ section, Dr. Dabber says it should last for 100 draws. An average user would probably get a couple of days from this, while heavier users would likely find themselves needing to recharge it daily or might want to switch to a device with longer battery life like the Utillian 5 (V3).

Portability

Yes, all wax pens like the Linx Hypnos Zero tend to be portable. But the Light is one of the most portable units that I’ve ever seen considering the performance. This is barely bigger than a cigarette, and very similar in size to a pen.

The pocket test is how I usually judge portability, but you could carry this anywhere with ease. Even your hand. It’s so small and light that you really won’t notice it. Forgetting where you put it may actually be a bigger problem!

Ease of Use

This is about as easy as they come. There’s just one button, and using it is very straightforward similar to the Evolve Plus.

You could hand this to someone who has never tried a wax pen before and they could probably figure it out with no instructions at all. You can’t get any easier than that.

Discreetness

Let’s just say that the tiny size isn’t just good for portability. My guess is the vast majority of people wouldn’t even notice you carrying this, and if they did, they would think it is either a cheap, gas station e-cig or a pen.

If discreetness is important to you, this is a good option. There are other options that are also very discreet such as the Linx Ares, but there aren’t many that are more discreet.

Overall Experience

The Dr Dabber Light is a fantastic choice for certain uses. If you are a beginner or just looking for a cheap pen to keep in your car for use while out and about, you’d probably be very happy with this.

There’s nothing fancy about it and you can’t customize it to your own preferences, but it is dependable, portable, and offers above average vapor with great flavor.

For those interested in exploring a wider array of wax pens, including more advanced options, you can check out our best dab pens ranking page. It’s a great resource for comparing various models and finding the perfect fit for your needs, whether you’re looking for something budget-friendly like the Yocan Orbit or a more premium option like the Tronian Gammatron.

In the $50 and under category, Dr. Dabber Light is one of the best. The next step up would be something like the Focus V Tourist, which will provide even better flavor and a more efficient experience.

Compatible with ZEUS Iceborn
This vaporizer is compatible with the ZEUS Iceborn, a revolutionary new vapor cooling system engineered by Canadian vape manufacturer ZEUSArsenal. The Iceborn is designed to produce cooler draws and bigger clouds when connected to your vaporizer. The vapour produced is ultra smooth and crisp and because of ice cooling, instead of water filtration, there is no loss of efficiency. The ZEUS Iceborn adds an additional 2 points to the vapor quality score of this vaporizer and is a highly recommended vaporizer accessory.
