The Dabado Bolt M Pro is an e-nail attachment for 510-threaded box mods. It has large nails with big heating rods and even bigger dishes. The Thunderbox Pro is a 160W, temperature-control box mod that runs off dual 18650s. Lets see how well they work now. Review: Bolt M Pro & Thunderbox Pro
How it Works
If you have checked out Dabados products before, you may know that it can get a little confusing. First youve got the Bolts. These are a lineup of portable e-nails that have the cylindrical pen-style base. Then you have the Bolt M. This is the atomizer/nail portion of the Bolt, but made specifically with 510 threading so that it can fit on a box mod.
The Bolt M Pro is like the Bolt M, only bigger and faster. It has a bigger heating rod, a bigger capacity, and it heats up faster than the others because it can handle a higher wattage.
To use the Bolt M Pro, you literally just screw it on top of a box mod. The recommended wattage for the Bolt M Pro is 120W, so you need a fairly hefty box mod to adequately power this. It comes with three different nails, all made from a different material. The materials are titanium, ceramic, and quartz.
The kit includes a glass water filtration attachment that slides over the top of the Bolt M Pro. To use it, you simply heat up the nail, add you concentrate, then cap the top with the included tool.
The Thunderbox Pro is the biggest box mod offered by Dabado. It can deliver up to 160W of power and has temperature control. This is sold separately from the Bolt M Pro, but you get a discount on each if you buy them together.
Temperature Flexibility
The temperature flexibility of this is simultaneously good and bad. On one hand, the Thunderbox Pro has three different modes: wattage, mech, and temperature control. And like I mentioned before, it can deliver up to 160W.
But most of this functionality is lost on the Bolt M Pro. It doesnt work in temperature control mode, and you shouldnt really use it on anything but 120W according to Dabado. Any more and you risk breaking it, any less and the performance drops off quickly.
Vapor Quality
The vapor quality that this setup can deliver is excellent. While I followed Dabados instructions of only using 120W for the Bolt M Pro, I still found that I was able to achieve different vapor styles.
If you heat the nail up for a full cycle without adding your wax, then add your wax and heat it again, you get extremely dense vapor. If you prefer flavor like I do, you can let the nail heat up for just a few seconds and then add your material.
Ive seen a lot of people complaining that they cant get dense vapor from this. If that is the case, you just arent using it right.
If you want to get really great vapor, invest in one of their special glass attachments like the Orbit. It has more water and diffusion than the stock setup, and the result is significantly smoother and cooler vapor.
Manufacturing Quality
The manufacturing quality is good, but not great. The glass feels delicate to me, so I highly recommend being very careful with it. Resist the urge to twist the attachments off by placing one hand on the base and one on the attachment itself.
You could easily snap the glass this way. Instead, pull it off while holding the glass that actually sits around the Bolt M Pro.
The nails should last a couple months, but they will need replaced from time to time.
Battery Life
This runs off dual 18650s that are removeable. Theyll last light users a few days or more, but heavy users may have a hard time getting through an entire day with just two.
I recommend picking up an extra pair so that you can always have one set in the device and another set charging or charged and ready to go. That way you wont ever have to deal with a dead device.
Portability
The portability of this is not great for a vaporizer but good compared to most dab rigs. If you are set on dabbing and want to go somewhere, this is about as good as you are going to get. Put it in a case, carry it in a backpack or purse, and take it with you to a friends house or something like that.
But it wont fit in a pocket. It doesnt come anywhere close to the convenience of a wax pen in that regard.
Ease of Use
This all seems more complicated than it actually is. At the end of the day, you’re just turning on a battery and pressing a button to heat up a nail.
This step replaces the role a torch normally places in dabbing. From there you just put your concentrate on the nail, cap it, and take a draw. You shouldnt have any trouble figuring it out. The only thing that may take some getting used to is finding out how long you like to preheat the nail before putting your material on it.
Overall Experience
I like the Bolt M Pro and the idea of using a box mod for dabbing.
The Bolt M Pro works very well once you get the hang of it, and the nails it uses are big and powerful. The stock glass water attachment does a good job of cooling the vapor, and the other ones they sell seperately work even better.
Speaking of, I really wish they gave you the option of upgrading the glass piece instead of having to get the stock unit and buying the better ones separately.
As far as the Thunderbox Pro goes, I think it is total overkill and that most people dont need it. If you only want to use it for the Bolt M Pro, then the majority of its functionality will be lost on you. The temperature control and all the wattage options below and above 120W are essentially useless unless you like vaping other things.
