Linx Apollo E-Rig Review – God of Wax?

Updated: January 8, 2024
We’ve reviewed a number of Linx products before and generally have good things to say about them. They put time and effort into their devices and it’s clear from the quality and craftsmanship of their products they care about their consumers. They’ve offered up something a little different in their latest product, a wax device capable of portable and desktop modes. Let’s see if it holds up to the standards set by its predecessors.

Review: Linx Apollo E-Rig

How it Works

As with any device, we highly recommend charging it fully before your first use. There are two modes you can use the Apollo – desktop and portable. In portable mode, fill the bubbler with water when it’s not attached to the device, then drop your concentrate into the bucket and then place the bubbler on top of the device.

Then press the power button five times to turn the device on. Press the power button three times rapidly to get to your desired temp, and then press the power button once to initiate heating. The Apollo will vibrate when it reaches temperature.

Temperature Flexibility

The Linx Apollo has four temperature settings to work with – blue is low, green is medium, yellow is medium-high, and red is high. I found that these temperature settings covered all your bases in terms of extraction.

I usually ended up using it on the green when I was running it through the bubbler and I could push myself to yellow when using it with a water piece.

Vapor Quality

The Apollo can rip! Whether in portable or desktop mode, the Apollo chucks clouds of the great tasting vapor that we have come to expect from the brand. It uses that same quartz atomizer that is almost Linx’s signature at this point, and the vapor goes down smooth because of that water filtration. It can definitely satisfy both flavor chasers and people who want to have a knock you on your ass, face melting session.

The quartz atomizer is versatile, in that it can handle larger or smaller loads easily, but I would still recommend starting with a rice grain sized amount and working your way up from there, but both microdosers and heavy hitters will not be disappointed with how much load this atomizer can handle.

I would say, it can’t quite replicate the hits you can get off of some dedicated e-rigs like the Core, but for all intents and purposes, it gets the job done. Other e-rigs like the Dr Dabber Switch reviews well very across the board so it might be worth taking a look at those as well.

The standout thing here is the versatility. The fact that you can take this out on the go and then attach it to your water piece at home is the main difference between this and other devices, but we’ll go over that more in manufacturing quality.

Manufacturing Quality

The Linx Apollo is constructed just as well as the rest of the Linx line. Stylish in design and form, it certainly looks gorgeous and has the tried and tested Linx stamp of approval on it. The quality of the device is high, and it has the same heavy metal testing as it’s brothers, so you can expect clean air and vapor path.

The bubbler is a nice shape and size, and switching it between modes is simple. Simply insert or remove the silicone airflow sleeve depending on which mode you like. Other than that it works exactly the same, with feathering that airflow being a good idea when you’re in portable mode. Is it as well built as something like the Focus V Carta? Debatable, but it’s definitely in the same ballpark.

Battery Life

A whopping 2600 mah battery is housed inside the Linx Apollo, which recharges to full in 2.5 hours. The only downside in my opinion is the micro USB cable, I would have liked to see USB-C used in this device just to cut down on charge time, but the battery will last you at least a day’s worth of sessions before you’ll even need to think about topping it up.

Portability

The Linx Apollo comes with a carrying case, just like the rest of the Linx line. I would argue that this is one of the only e-rigs (kind of) that would be alright to hit when out and about, but even then, the bubbler is pretty large and might cause some looks.

Either way, with the 2600 mah battery and a nice travel case, the portability of this device is unquestionable.

Ease of Use

The versatility of this device is great, but how easy is it to switch between modes? Easy – very easy. Remove or replace that airflow tool, add the water piece adapter if necessary, and rip away! Cleaning is straightforward as well, as you’re really only worried about the atomizer. Just make sure to clean while it’s still hot.

5 taps will turn it on and 3 will change between temperatures. It’s incredibly easy to use.

Discreetness

While it’s relatively discrete all on its own, the minute you attach the bubbler and/or your water piece, it immediately triples in size. It’s really best suited for home use, in my opinion. If you’re looking for something a little more discrete I would definitely look at the Utillian 5 – and if you want that sweet, sweet water filtration add on the bubbler.

Overall Experience

The Linx Apollo offers something unique in its versatility. Will it give you the rips you can expect on a full-blown e-rig? Not quite, but it does a pretty damn good job. It hits that area between the G Pen Connect, a traditional e-rig, and a wax pen. The construction quality is solid, the hits are potent and flavorful, and the 2-in-1 capability is all great reasons to pick this device up.
