Linx has already impressed us with their premium wax pen the Linx Hypnos Zero <\/a> which offers 4 temperatures and a ceramic plate atomizer that really impressed us. The Linx Ares is not one of your traditional dab pens<\/a> and has been instead deemed a \u201choney straw\u201d because of how it functions. How it Works<\/h3>\n

Turning the unit on is fairly similar to other wax pens, press the power button 5 times to turn the device on. 3 clicks on the power button will toggle between high and low temperature settings. Remove the cap at the top of the device to reveal the mouthpiece and remove the cap at the bottom reveal the heating element.<\/p>\n

The reason why this device is called a \u201cHoney Straw\u201d is because you actually use this unit like\u2026 a straw! Rather than loading an atomizer like a traditional wax pen, which can be a bit of an ordeal. The Linx Ares encourages you to vape directly from the concentrate container using the device like a straw to slurp up your extracts! Simply press and hold the power button to begin heating the ceramic element and dab the element onto your concentrates while in the container while drawing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

\n\"Temperature<\/a><\/p>\n

Temperature Flexibility<\/h3>\n

The Linx Ares only has 2 temperature settings, low and high. Unfortunately, Linx is not specific with what the actual temperatures are, but we can tell you from experience that the lower temperature provides more flavor and the higher temperature generates better cloud production.<\/p>\n

We wish you were given a little bit more flexibility with temperature seeing as their Linx Blaze Wax Pen<\/a> offered 4 temperatures, but we were still able to achieve decent vapor production with the temperatures given.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Vapor Quality<\/h3>\n

Vapor Quality from the Linx Ares is really nice, as we mentioned on the lower temperature draws are very smooth and full of flavor. You will be able to taste all the subtle flavor notes in your concentrates.<\/p>\n

At the higher temperature vapor production was pretty impressive from this device, granted it uses a decent amount of wax in order to function properly, which will always result in more vapor than using less product. However, users that are cloud chasers usually tend to prefer units like the Puffco Peak<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Manufacturing Quality<\/h3>\n

We have really enjoyed the quality of other Linx products, their dry herb unit the Linx Gaia<\/a>, is a shining example of great manufacturing quality and aesthetics from this company. The Ares is also a beautiful work of art and will most likely get mistaken for a fancy pen at first glance. We loved the brushed aluminum finish of this unit giving it almost an apple-esque quality to it.<\/p>\n

We like the quartz mouthpiece, it shares a similar design to the mouthpiece on the rest of the Linx product line and provides a smooth even draw.<\/p>\n

Linx uses magnets to hold the mouthpiece and heating element caps in place. Unfortunately, there is nowhere to store both caps while the unit is in use forcing you to hold them or put them in your pocket. While this seems to work we do worry about losing the parts over time if they become separated by accident or if you put them down and simply forget.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

\n\"Battery<\/a><\/p>\n

Battery Life<\/h3>\n

Battery life on the Ares is average if you are a moderate user you can easily go a day or two without needing to charge the unit. If you are a heavier user or using the unit in a group setting you will be reaching for the charger more often than not.<\/p>\n

The battery does charge via an included USB adapter which does make it quite easy to keep the unit charged even if you are out and about, however, users tend to prefer units like the Source Orb 4 Premium Kit<\/a> that comes with the removable batteries to avoid waiting for for the charge.<\/span><\/p>\n

This device is fairly portable, it is a bit longer than the average wax pen like the Utillian 5<\/a> so it may stick out of your pocket a bit but most people will mistake it for a pen.<\/p>\n

The method in which you use this device also makes it fairly portable because you don\u2019t have to fumble around to load your concentrates, which can be one of the hardest parts of using a wax pen when out. Instead, you just dip the heating element into your jar of concentrates to quickly get in a draw.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Ease of Use<\/h3>\n

Because the design of the Ares forgoes the need to load the unit it is very easy to operate. Just press and hold the power button while you place the heating element into your dish of concentrates and inhale.<\/p>\n

The only thing that hinders the ease of use with this device is using it with smaller amounts of concentrates. The device really struggles to vaporize your wax properly when you are down to your last little bit and because you need a lot of concentrates in the first place it is not the most efficient wax device on the market. Users looking for an efficient unit usually tend to prefer devices like the Focus V Tourist.<\/span><\/div><\/div> <\/span>

Overall Experience<\/h3>\n

Overall the Linx Ares is a unique device for wax lovers. It makes using concentrates much easier by removing the need to load your wax pen, which can be the most frustrating and messy part of your session.<\/p>\n

However, in order to use the Linx Ares effectively, your wax container has to be fairly full of concentrates, it is not nearly as effective with small amounts. While we enjoy the stealth pen design and magnetic caps, we do worry that over time these removable parts will get lost.<\/p>\n

If you are in the market for a decent wax pen we definitely recommend checking out the Utillian 2 Wax Pen<\/a>, which uses magnets more effectively and offers a more efficient session. If you are looking for something really simple to use check out the Zeus Thunder 2.
