Review: SMOK T Priv 3 kit
Manufacturing Quality
The Smok T Priv 3 shares a good deal of similarities with its predecessor. It retains the same design language, utilizing a set of RGB LED lights to add sparkle to the device. In addition to this, the same familiar aggressive accents make their way to this mod, giving the Smok T Priv 3 a progressive Transformers-like vibe, a vibe so strong that you wouldn’t be surprised to see this device used as a prop in the next Michael Bay Transformers movie.
But that’s where most similarities end and the differences begin. Instead of retaining the same boxy shape that the original T Priv had, the T Priv 3 is now more ergonomic, with a sloped oval form factor very reminiscent of the Wismec RX family of devices.
Available in an extensive selection of colorways to choose from, there aren’t any words for the overall finish of the Smok T Priv 3 beyond the word impressive. While the design can be polarizing, and drive off vapers with more conservative tastes in aesthetics, there is no denying that the Smok T Priv 3’s Prism colorways are anything short of beautiful.
The zinc alloy construction looks to be electroplated (excepting the matte black colorway), giving it a smooth and almost mirror-like finish.
To give emphasis towards the aggressive RGB lighting on the main body of the Smok T Priv 3, the OLED display has been moved towards the top of the device next to the 510 connection. Despite being limited in size, the display makes up for it in clarity and a functional layout which efficiently display all required information about the mod.
Due to the display placement, the spring loaded 510 connection is positioned off center on the top of the mod, allowing for only a maximum of 26mm diameter atomizers to be used with the mod.
Refinements have also been made to the firing bar, making it more ergonomic and tactile at the same time, offering a satisfying actuation upon every press so you’ll know definitely know when the device is activated.
The battery door located at the bottom of the mod has also been improved with a sturdier spring-loaded design. The battery door no longer rattles or wiggles when closed. Proper battery polarity indicators are used as well, ensuring that all three 18650 batteries are easily installed properly.
Flavor Quality
Seeing as the Smok T Priv 3 is one of the more recent kits to be released by Smok, its good to see that they didn’t skimp on the included sub-ohm tank.
Instead of the standard TFV8 Baby Beast which has been a mainstay on most if not all Smok kits in the previous year, the Smok T Priv 3 kit instead includes the TFV12 Prince as a part of its package.
Pre-installed with a 0.4-ohm coil rated for 60-80 watts for optimal operation and an extra 0.12-ohm coil rated for 80-110 watts, the Smok T Priv kit has a relatively high power ceiling allowing you to crank up the settings of your device straight out of the box.
Flavor and vapor production on the kit is well above average but the Smok TFV12 Prince becomes a true cloud machine when pairing it with the 0.12-ohm coil. Flavors are more intense as well thanks to the higher volume of liquid being vaporized. Coil quality and lifespan has been satisfactory with each of the coils lasting a week on average.
Power Flexibility
If you ever felt that the original Smok T Priv fell short of your expectations in terms of power delivery, the Smok T Priv 3 will blow all your reservations away with its massive 300 watts of maximum output.
Ramp up is almost instantaneous and there is virtually zero firing delay from pressing the firing bar to the mod firing up not to mention misfires are also a thing of the past when vaping with the Smok T Priv 3.
The Smok T Priv 3 isn’t short of vaping modes as well. It’s got them all: all the way from variable wattage to customizable TCR settings.
Temperature control works like a charm and has more than decent support for stainless steel, nickel, and titanium coils. Temperature accuracy of the Smok T Priv 3 doesn’t match the performance of the higher end DNA or YiHi chips but they do come close and is still ideal for the casual vaper.
Ease of Use
Considering the number of functions and modes that the T Priv 3 provides, it’s understandable that there is a bit of a learning curve involved if you plan on utilizing the mod to its full potential.
But most vapers who vape on good old variable wattage mode shouldn’t have any issues getting their vape on right away.
In terms of maintenance, the Smok TFV12 doesn’t pose much of a challenge. The 8ml glass tank ensures that you’ll be spending less time refilling and more time vaping, while the easy push swivel top fill mechanism makes refills a breeze.
Portability
Thanks to its triple battery design, there is some considerable girth to the Smok T Priv 3. While it doesn’t pose a problem when holding the mod thanks to its ergonomic shape, it might feel a bit awkward carrying it around in your pocket.
So if you’re someone who doesn’t typically go about your with a small bag or purse then the Smok T Priv 3 might be a bit too cumbersome to take around.
The Smok T Priv can go for up to 2-4 days on a single charge depending on your vaping style. While the micro USB charging port does allow the batteries to be internally charged, it’s always a much better idea to use an external charger when working multiple battery mods.
Overall Experience
The Smok T Priv is a powerful do-it-all mod with a monstrous battery life. While the edgy styling might be a bit off-putting for the more conservative vapers out there, fans of this particular aesthetic should easily fall in love with the Smok T Priv’s unique styling.
