Smok G-Priv Baby kit Review – Oh baby

Updated: October 6, 2023
While sub-compact mods are dime a dozen, it’s not too often that we encounter a small form factor device that still manages to host a full feature set. Enter the Smok G-Priv Baby. This tiny little mod features a 2-inch HD color touch screen, a first for a device in its size category. It also manages to fire up to a maximum of 85 watts thanks to its effective use of a single 18650 battery (sold separately). The kit doesn’t cut any corners either as its bundled with the Smok TFV12 Baby Prince tank, one of Smok’s flagships tanks.
While this all sounds really good on paper, let’s dive down and get into the bones of this mod see whether it deserves your thumbs up. Be sure to check the vape buyer’s guides for important information to take into consideration before making your purchase.

Smok G-Priv Baby Review

Manufacturing Quality

One of the consistent hallmarks of a quality mod lies within the fit and finish. The Smok G-Priv Baby manages to pass in this regard with flying colors thanks to its expertly finished zinc alloy body.

Not only does this give the mod a nice touch of flair thanks to the wide variety of colorways available, but it makes the device feel damn good when held in your hand. It’s solid as a brick, without any annoying creaks or rattles which are indicators of a poorly made mod.

The firing bar used on the Smok G-Priv Baby doesn’t deviate at all from the design language utilized in the G-Priv lineup. It’s tactile and gives off a crisp click when pressed, serving as an excellent indicator for the exact moment that the mod fires up. If you’ve been using big box mods with 510 carts it may be time to look for something smaller, most vapers tend to start with Linx Hermes 3 for their oil because its much more compact than a mod.

The Smok G-Priv Baby also completely ditches the traditional up/down button layout and instead opts for virtual buttons which can be pressed on the color touchscreen. Thanks to its capacitive technology, the touchscreen is plenty responsive and the majority of users shouldn’t experience much trouble changing settings on the fly.

The small exception lies with vapers in colder climates who tend to wear gloves that might get in the way of producing responsive feedback on the capacitive screen.Smok G-Priv Baby available colors

The top of the mod uses a threaded battery cap to secure the single 18650 battery. The cap manages to avoid the usual weakness of this type of battery cover which are low-quality threads on the cap itself.

Securing the battery inside the Smok G-Priv Baby feels buttery smooth and with the easy to spot polarity indicators in the battery chamber, installing fresh batteries should be as easy as pie.

Flavor Quality

Considering that the Smok G-Priv Baby kit includes the fabled TFV12 Prince Baby tank, it shouldn’t be a surprise that exceptional flavor and vapor production can be expected out of this kit.

The pre-installed 0.4 ohm V8 Baby Q4 coil head manages to strike the perfect balance between cloud and flavor density with many compromises in either regard. The included Q2 Core coil head is also rated at 0.4 ohms and slightly favors the enthusiastic cloud chucker thanks to its massive cloud production, but with a small dip in overall flavor quality.

As for the mod itself, the Smok G-Priv Baby works like a dream. It fires fast and hard with very minimal ramp-up time, making it one of Smok’s most responsive mods to date. The total lack of misfires is just the icing on the cake, giving you a seamless and disappointment-free vaping experience all throughout.

Power Flexibility

One might confuse the Smok G-Priv Baby’s lack of size to be a sign of weakness but that assumption couldn’t be more wrong. If the high definition color screen is any indication, the Smok G-Priv Baby is jam-packed with features such as comprehensive temperature control for nickel, titanium, and stainless steel coils.

For avid users of TC mode, you’ll also be glad to know that the Smok G-Priv Baby also allows you to lock the resistance of your coil, making it even easier to dial in the settings you want. Add adjustable TCR and preheat capability on top of that, and you’ve got a monster of a mod in an easy to hold and portable form factor.

The 510 connection on top of the mod supports any atomizer with a maximum diameter of 23mm. The mod is physically incapable of accommodating anything larger due to the battery cap which is in close proximity to the tank, so keep that in mind in case you plan on using a 24mm atomizer with this device.

Ease of Use

Thanks to the well-designed UI, now spread out in an intuitive icon matrix, knowing the ins and outs of your mod couldn’t be easier, as there is no more need to fiddle around with finicky up/down or menu buttons that can potentially confuse new vapers.

To say that the capacitive touchscreen is responsive would be an understatement. Mis-clicks, or rather miss-touches are non-existent with the Smok G-Priv Baby as its responsive as your typical modern smartphone.

Basic operation doesn’t deviate much from the standard electronic cigarette. Five clicks on the firing bar turns the device on and off. Tapping the touch screen 2 times locks the screen from any further input and 3 taps completely locks down the mod which is very convenient for times where you need to pocket or store the mod away.

Portability

The Smok G-Priv Baby is tinier than a vast majority of mods out there (hence the name). With dimensions measuring out to a mere 72mm by 51mm by 29.2mm, it can easily slip in and out of the smallest pockets much less rest comfortably in the palm of your hand.

It’s got some heft to it though, weighing in at just over 200 grams with the tank included, so the mod doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy at all despite its small size.

Thanks to the Smok G-Priv Baby’s compatibility with 18650 batteries, it manages to deliver decent battery life. While largely dependent on the rating and brand of battery used, it’s not unusual to get a full day’s worth of use out of the mod, although heavier users might find the need to recharge at some point.Smok G-Priv Baby mouth piece detached
