Vapor Quality

While the Crafty Plus’ older brother the Mighty in our eyes reigns king over all the other portable convection dry herb vapes, the Utillian 722 comes surprisingly close in terms of performance. The patented hybrid heater which Storz & Bickel stuffs into the Crafty+ and Mighty is surely a tough one to beat, but the Utillian 722 and its powerful convection heater surely deliver high quality, potent, and flavorful vapor too.

The Crafty+ with its cooling unit does leave the vapor a bit smoother and less harsh than the Utillian 722, though it is notably harder to clean after. Both units pump out solid clouds of vapor, with the Crafty+ producing a bit more. If you desire a more cool and better vapor quality, using the Zeus Iceborn is recommended as it adds 2 points to the vapor quality.

With all that being said, the Utillian 722 comes close to the vapor quality of the Crafty+, but it’s hard to beat the years and incredible engineering of Storz & Bickel. In a blind test, most people won’t notice the difference. However, with the history of great quality vapor, we give this point for the Crafty+ in this department.

Manufacturing Quality

It’s hard to deny the top quality customer service and reputation that Storz & Bickel has amassed, however the Crafty+ leaves a bit to be desired in terms of physical construction.

It’s reliable, sturdy, and effective, however, it’s still plastic. While it’s medical-grade and safe to use, the physical feeling of plastic, especially for such an expensive device, does leave us a bit sad, unlike the Zeus Arc GTS Hub which too is expensive but has a gold plated chamber and gold plated heat sink.

The Utillian 722, on the other hand, uses a sprayed aluminum body that feels and looks more what a high-end vaporizer would be like, with the gunmetal gray looking more attractive to us.

The redesigned mouthpiece of the Utillian 722 certainly gives it that attractive look, and the minimalist and sleek is our preference compared to the industrial power-tool look of the Crafty+.

Still lightweight and portable, the Utillian 722 edges out a win over the Crafty+ for its physical build and aesthetics without compromising in other departments.

Battery Life

Neither unit has a removable battery like the Flowermate V5 Nano and both uses dated MicroUSB charging. However, the battery life on the Utillian 722 seems to slightly edge itself past the Crafty+.

With the Crafty+, you can expect between 5-7 sessions on a full charge, with the Utillian 722 able to eke out between 6-8 sessions per charge. This is a minor point but a victory nonetheless, the give the Utillian 722 a victory in this department.

Portability

Both units are stellar pocketable portable vaporizers and are built to be high-end herb vaporizers similar to the Davinci IQC. The Crafty+ does key in at a lower weight and slightly smaller overall size, and its plastic construction is nonetheless very durable and reliable, and the practicality of using Dosing Capsules when out on the go is hard to beat.

Don’t get it wrong, the Utillian 722 is a terrific portable herb vaporizer is very nearly the same size, but it’s going to be extremely hard to dethrone the Crafty+ as the best portable herb vape.

Ease of Use

Both units are simple to use with straightforward, one-button operation and a user-friendly experience overall. Both are as easy as using the LITL 1 vaporizer, which has a one set temperature and the most recommended for first time users. While the Crafty+ is a bit easier to use with the Crafty capsules and less sensitive to grind and pack consistency, the Utillian 722 is notably easier to clean.

While the Crafty+ does have an app, some may find that using an app in the first place can be an unnecessary extra step. Another wrinkle with the app is the fact that Apple has begun banning vaporizer apps, this means if you are an iPhone user, you may find yourself without the ability to change temperatures.

For this reason, we have to give the victory to the Utillian 722 vaporizer, no app means no worrying about your devices being ripped from it on the whim of a company like Apple.

Discreetness

Both are somewhat close to the look and style of a normal e-juice vape. The Crafty+ with its more unique and industrial design may gather a few more looks and stares, however, it is slightly smaller than the Utillian 722.

With that being said, the Utillian 722 looks more inconspicuous and you won’t really run into any problems with either device. It’s a tie for both units in the category as well.

Users that prefer to stay low key and want an even more discreet unit usually lean towards the Davinci miqro.

Temperature Flexibility

Both devices have a somewhat limited temperature flexibility option as opposed to other units like the Arizer Solo 2 offering precise temperature control. Both units only using one button to control the unit means limited selection options. The Utillian 722 comes with 4 pre-set temperatures and a 5th, ‘boost’ mode.

The Crafty+ comes with the ability to select 2 pre-set temperatures and also a boost mode. While the Crafty+ does have a smartphone app (if you’re not on iOS currently) which allows you to choose temperatures, the higher built-in and available flexibility on the Utillian 722 is better.

While it’s not a big victory, we certainly prefer the better versatility and higher max temperature the Utillian 722 provides, and it takes the win in this category. And as we previously noted, iPhone users may end up stuck with only 3 settings. Which makes the 722 a no brainer.

Overall Experience

These two units are actually fairly similar in the long run and we were quite surprised! The Crafty+ is hard to beat in terms of raw performance and vapor quality, but the Utillian vape really comes close and give it a run for its money, especially at the low cost of entry.

Its aesthetics, build quality, and other small victories make it a strong competitor to the Crafty+ and in many ways much better value.

Don’t get us wrong, the Crafty+ is a good portable herb vape and has some of the best vapor quality, but the price difference between the two actually has us going for the Utillian 722. The performance gap is small enough that the extra money saved is certainly no problem and the aluminum construction, better temperature control, and great vapor quality from the 722 leaves us feeling better.

You certainly can’t go wrong with either unit and both are great! If you want nothing but the best vapor quality and have the extra cash to spare, get the Crafty+ vaporizer. If you want a better bang for your buck and better feel/aesthetic in a device, go for the Utillian 722 vaporizer!
